I know that the 63rd Miss Universe Pageant in Doral Miami is a tough beauty competition first and foremost. And it is not a search for the friendliest young woman in the planet. But let me say that I am quite proud of all six (6) ASEAN ladies among the contenders. Gone are the days when representatives from our region are solely identified as gentle, demure and non-aggressive. The evolution is very progressive.

And Elvira of Indonesia, Sabrina of Malaysia, Sharr of Myanmar, MJ of the Philippines, Rathi of Singapore and Pimbongkod of Thailand are proofs positive that our beauties this side of the globe have come a long way. Just watch their individual web interviews below and you will see how they define the modern version of the ASEAN female. More than mere eye candies, they exude a nice blend of smarts and all-around attractiveness. 🙂

  2. Wala bang themed glam shots by Fadil? O yun na yung naka swimsuit sila?

    I was really looking forward to the Fadil glam shots coz I think MJ can slay that photo, but it seems yun na yon :-/

Share ko lang to: Kanina, habang nag-sho-shower ako, inisip ko kung pang-ilang candidate kaya si MJ na tatawagin starting Miss ALBANIA as #1, Miss ANGOLA as #2, etc (alphabetically)…Sabi ko sa sarili, kapag #63 si MJ, isa itong sign na siya ang maging Miss Universe sa 63rd edition nito. At kani-kanina lang, binilang ko kung pang-ilan si MJ…kinilabutan ako: #63 nga sya!!!! WOW< WOW< WOW!!!

  6. Si Indonesia kamukha ni Zhang Ziyi. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon lang ang peg. Si MJ Dyosa ang peg. Hehehe

  7. Hard to admit, but I bet indonesia alongside philippines and thailand will make top 16 but only philippines will be part of top5 amongst the ASEAN countries. Colombia, mexico, usa and slovak republic will join our MJ for the crown

    • Is this the official gown for the finals?! Honestly …. I love it!!!! I also like migbelis gown here… I hope this is the gown she wears for the finals. It’s very different and sh looks very fresh with this color. Red is too much for her. This is the best Barazza gown ever. Mabuhay si Barazza !

  15. actually gusto ko silang lahat. si rathi kase may pusa sya hehehe…sana kahit 3 or 4 sa kanila maka pasok sa semis. asians and latinas nalalakasan ako this year. wala akong ma feel sa mga europeans and africans ngayon

    Thailand was nice pero mejo nakulangan lang ako, same with malaysia. But they seem like nice and mabait based sa videos.

    Mejo nahirapan ako intindihin si miss myanmar.

    Miss philippines, ang classy ng aura ni mj despite that interview outfit.

  18. Si Ms. Philippines ang tinatarget lagi ng mga pageant trolls sa internet. Ang daming malicious comments sa official MU interview niya sa Youtube. Sana wag na patulan ng mga pinoy fans.

  20. Balita rin ang 2 diva sa asya eh sibuyas at dog! At kahit inis ako sa kababayan ni santolan mababang loob at tahimik lang daw ,ang super friendly sa kanila ang ating emj siempre! C dog daw hindi nakikijoined sa mga taga asya feelingera masyado dun siya sumasama lagi sa mga taga europa! Ciguro turo ni manang ines para lumutang ciguro ang alindog niya sa totoo lang c dog ang pinaka pangit ang katawan parang nanganak na ang balakang at hita! Bukod kay emj ang gusto ko makapasok sa asya eh santolan at malay ko sau! Ang sure pasok c emj sa pang lima! Yung hula ng kaibigan ko manghuhula kuno 2nd daw ang reyna natin! Ay naku sablay naman hula niya c janine sabi niya 2nd tapos naging first, hula niya kay val 2nd daw tapos top 25 kay megan lang siya tumama! Sabi ko sa friend ko ayaw ko maniwala sau kase para sakin emj ang panalo! Feeling natin talaga siya na!

    • Type ko din si malay nating lahat… Si Singapore kulang sa ganda pero mas type ko din sya kaysa kay sibuyas at dog.

    • Eto pala successor ni ate sharie! At least consistent talaga ang BVI sa reps nila. Pasabog kung pasabog. Lol.

  22. Guys, I always check on the online betting when miss universe kicks off and I’m worried this year MJs chance is a little far 18/1! I just pray not top 16 guys but top 5! If she gets in then it’s all good

  23. The real competition Starts during the preliminary and finals and I think that what we’re seeing from mj is just the tip of the iceberg. Can’t wait for mj to rock the miss universe stage. The gown, her sway, her hair, her look, feeling really confident about it!

    Thailand – Dahil matangkad siya, naalala ko tuloy yung panahon ni Shamcey sa MU 2011. Diba pasok sa banga si CHINA sa top 5 dahil sa tangkad? May poise naman.

    Indonesia – So far ito ang pinaka-malakas na pangbato ng Indonesia sa MU. Fresh

    Myanmar – Exotic I guess… Parang si Riyo Mori ang aura.

    Malaysia and Singapore – siguro kung aayusan lang ng maigi mga to baka nga palaban ang beauty nila. Si Singapore kasi parang si Miss Universe 1999 “Botswana”.

    and of course

    Philippines – Aminin natin pang-tapat si MJ sa mga Latina/Hispanic representatives. =) She can be the leader sa ASEAN Bloc.

    Mukhang di na magpapadaig ang ASEAN Bloc. Feeling ko lang 3 o 4 na ASEAN ang papasok sa top 16 di na ako magugulat kung pasok mga to sa banga.

    Ang chismax kasi e lagging tag-gutom ang mga babaita.
    Kung walang mga guests sa hotel ay wala silang makakain na pagpag.
    At kadalasan pa ay inaalila sila, pinag-aagiw, pinaglilimas ng tubig sa pool at pinagbubungkal ng lupa sa backyard ng resort at pinagtatanim ng malunggay at saluyot.

  27. I think Indonesia will be in with MJ. She’s a little rawer thought, so I expect more polished MJ to finish higher. Just like last year.

    India will also be up there. India has a more cosmopolitan look but is kind of raw as well. Trying to be fierce instead of just being fierce. I expect judges will be all over the board with her and thus she will finish lower than MJ as well.

    For the other Asian nations – China and Thailand are nowhere to be found in a Doral it seems. Maybe they went home.
