  1. Norman, it´s positively exciting to hear of a new bona fide national pageant in quest of the best Filipina beauty that would boost national pride that should in turn generate more public interest, higher TV ratings, sponsorships and good competitive rivalry among the beauty camps which would result in having better standard of aspirants!

I see this new national pageant as a win-win situation for all involved and this developement cannot be compared to American Idol as the winner does not represent the States in any international competition at all.

On the other hand, national pageants always promote regional & provincial pride as well as tourism among the TV viewers and supporters, too. A sense of unity is felt whenever we support our reps in various international pageants and national pride & honor bring us closer as citizens when our girls put us on the global map by doing well overseas!

I don´t think The PHILIPPINES will ever suffer from pageant-fatigue or get sick of feminine beauty!

  2. pwedeng na pressure sya ng MGI org na maghold ng pageant since madaming countries ang nag acquire ng franchise na maghohold ng kanikanyang local pageant and to think, the Philippines is a pageant crazy country, the thai org maybe thought na dapat may local pageant na maganap to make it more popular sa pinas..or else baka di na irenew ang contract nila, at ibibigay na lang ang franchise sa mga established local pageant orgs like bb. pilipinas or mutya ng pilipinas

  3. Sir Norman, which tv network will air this pageant? I hope it’s GMA. There are already 2 national pageants in ABS-CBN, just to balance things out.

  6. He could appoint Kenneth, Joy or Raquel as the Philippines representative, or Emma or Ja.

  7. Mr. John Dela Vega should appoint the Philippine representative to the Miss Grand International. For two reason: To many beauty pageant and secondly, you have enough lovely ladies at your own camp. What happen to his original plan? Whoever from among the JDV Team will be the top placer at the recent Bb, Pilipinas Pageant will have the privilege to represent the country. Mr, JDV stick to your plan. It seems you don’t trust the lovely ladies at your own camp. Make up your mind JDV.

      • Norman, I’m afraid the onslaught of new beauty pageants could have a ‘ water down’ effect on our nation’s interest in BP.

Look at American Idol. Is there anyone watching that show anymore?

We could be seeing the beginning of the end of nationally televised beauty pageants in our country ….. If we allowed this MGIP to take place.

        JDV…. Please stop!

  8. I was amazed by Miss Grand International’s initial presentation. It lived up to it’s name — it was GRAND. Hopefully it stays grand and bias-free. I look forward to seeing the Philippines winning the second edition considering that we have a plenty of very much deserving ladies this year. Hopefully the local organization picks the rightful winner to represent us. To JDV, break a leg!
