A good Binibini knows how to accessorize well

Pia Wurtzbach for a personal appearance with simple formal styling.
A girl’s sense of fun and style can be seen in how she dresses up and adds the right kind and amount of accessories to go with the get-up. While a personal stylist can render valuable help in completing a look, I am always fond of ladies who know how to do things on their own and can mix & match an eye-catching pair of earrings with an understated bracelet or vice-versa. I also appreciate cool bag hags
who are either affluent enough or those without the fat budget to buy the most expensive brands just to make a fashion statement.

Maligayang Kaarawan, Megan!
Today is the 24th birthday of Miss World 2013 Megan Lynne Young. Let us all wish her (@meganbata) the best for the remaining months of her reign and beyond. May her dream to have the Philippines host Miss World 2014 come true.
Enjoy your special day, Megan! Have a safe trip to Moscow for Miss Russia 2014. 🙂
Below is a recent pic of Megan with brother Victor.
Binibini 13 Kris Tiffany Janson’s biggest competition is herself.
I am saying it out loud now, echoing the views of a good many. Kris Tiffany Janson’s biggest competition is herself.
While the line sounds trite and incessantly used by several other individuals who do not want to give the benefits of another person’s name shining more than his/hers, Binibini 13 is looking more and more like competing against herself in Bb. Pilipinas 2014.
People have been comparing the way she presented herself during Miss Cebu 2009 and now. And the verdict is that she should go into that regional mode in terms of styling and projection. My personal take, though, is for her to take snippets of good points from five year ago and incorporate them into her modernized version. The smile, for one, still needs to be perfected. But in general, I actually like her now. Back then, she was only 19. And the improvements are in keeping with the times.
So how do we really inject a more dynamic spin in the already-gorgeous Cebuana?
I read a tip on how to have fierce confidence. It goes something like this: “Look at yourself in a mirror without combing your hair or putting on makeup and think, “I look just fine.” Makeup is for the insecure, not for lovely girls with fierce confidence.”
While this advice is not to be followed to the letter, the more important thing to remember is to start from within, look for that inner spark that would jumpstart an outward persona that conjures excitement and tempered sensuality – something that would put in motion what she exudes well in pixels. 😉
Binibini 9 Joy Diaz with her candid profile shot during the Jag photoshoot.
I was actually amazed at the picture above showing the profile shot of Binibini 9 Joy Antonette Diaz taken at random by BPCI’s resident snappers. She looks heavenly/ethereal, don’t you think? Compare that her regular shot on the left and you’d think they are two different ladies.
I really wish Joy is at least two inches taller. That way, it wouldn’t be so hard for me to pick my favorites from the Team JDV camp. The height of Racquel Kabigting is constantly hovering her chances. But then again, their mentor John dela Vega can always push for Gloria’s niece to wear the Philippine sash in Miss Grand International 2014 if ever. That would be a sweet denouement depending on how the results of Bb. Pilipinas 2014 will unfold. 😉
Sporting the long straight dark hair that became an Ara Arida trademark in 2013. Will it bring success to Leona and Zahara this year?
The long straight dark hair – mermaid-length if you will – that stretches till way past the shoulders. That was how Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ara Arida presented herself during the pageant finals in Moscow. And it worked to a good extent, despite pageant fans being mixed in their reactions to the hairstyle.
During the Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Press Presentation last week, two of the forty ladies wore their tresses almost the same way, albeit somehow layered in the ends. Binibini 34 Leonalyn dela Cruz and Bininini 16 Zahara Soriano did not exactly bring the house down, but enough to make the people notice their crowning glories parted in the middle (or near middle for the latter) and flowing straight and silky.
The way I see it, Leona carried hers more beautifully than Zahara. It must be the shape of the face or the over-all aura. But besides the hair, who are you more inclined to support between the two? They are two of the more low-profile ladies in the competition. Not exactly hiding behind the backs of the favorites, but not standing upfront with such prominence that would make the watcher sit up and take notice.
In the photo grid above, Bianca did not put her own make-up, but she earnestly wants to learn how to.
I personally believe it is a must for every Binibini (or Bb. Pilipinas titleholder) to start learning how to put her own make-up. And I don’t mean the kind you just wear on a simple day spent malling or going out with friends, but real pageant-purpose cosmetic application. There are many advantages such as knowing what suits your skin best, applying the right amount to compliment the shape of one’s face and most importantly, avoiding any kind of unnecessary “sabotage” from competition make-up artists who may or may not be doing the proper thing depending on who he wants to look better or simply “experimenting” on another person’s face.
Of course, everybody has got to start with the basics. And so, I am turning to Filipina make-up guru Ana Victorino, one of my favorite online tutors, to give us video tips on the subject matter.
Everyday Make-Up Routine
Make-Up in 5 Minutes
How to Contour
Smokey Eyes for Daytime
Foundation and Brow Routine
I admit. I am no expert in the matter. But one thing I’m pretty dang sure of is that I want our ladies to be self-reliant in matters of the face and how to make themselves more beautiful.
So Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates, pick up the make-up kit now and start mastering the art! 🙂
Would you go for Paombong’s Pride Krystal Alonday (left) or the Muse of Malolos Vessica Sambo?
Of the Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates from the province of Bulacan, there are two (2) who actually represent locations that are next to each other – Binibini 36 Krystal Alonday of the Municipality of Paombong and Binibini 40 Vessica Sambo of Malolos City.
Binibini 36 Krystal Alonday or Binibini 40 Vessica Sambo?
Both from Team JDV, they are receiving completely different reactions from pageant enthusiasts. While Vessica has been getting ahead in terms of positive feedbacks and inclusions in a good number of Top 15 favorites, Krystal is still unable to register a solid following and needs to start warming up to everyone so that her efforts will not come to naught.
Since I have not featured the web interviews of both ladies yet, watch below and compare.
Krystal Alonday or Vessica Sambo?
Or is the choice crystal clear? 😉
