Ariella & Patricia: from the Philippine Islands and the Canary Islands

Two of the more talked-about delegates in Miss Universe 2013 come from two countries that share deep historical ties. And it cannot be denied that they also come from islands that have some of the most beautiful women in the world.

But beyond more than 400 years of ancient history and places of birth, Miss Philippines Ariella Arida and Miss Spain Patricia Rodriguez (who hails from the Canary Islands) are entering the pageant with the strong desire to win their respective countries’ 3rd and 2nd Miss Universe crowns respectively.

The desire to achieve is strong for both. One is looking to give a grand culmination to the three-year Top 5 placements from 2010, 2011 and 2012. The other is seeking to erase the memory of a first Spanish winner (Amparo Munoz of 1974) who was dethroned even before she could relinquish her duties to Anne Pohtamo (MU1975).

Will one of them succeed? 😉

  5. Great shot of Ara and Miss Spain. That angle of Ara is perhaps one of her best which I hope she’ll use more often in candids. Patricia, I think, is one of the best delegates from Spain in recent years. They are two of my favorites for the crown. I wish them both the best!

  11. tama.. parang nakakahiya maging pinoy kung kapwa mo mismo pinoy ung naninira.. naging notorios na taung mga pinoy pagdating sa paninira…

    • Sadly, this is one trait that I dislike about Pinoys and mind you even other races are aware of this :\ Nakakahiya tsktsk…

  12. Lovely ladies indeed. I hope Ara keeps on lifting up her spirit to go with the competition. Nakakapanghina na po kasi ng loob ang sobra-sobrang panglalait kay Ara, masakit pa po nito ay kapwa mga pilipino pa ang nangungunang naninira sa kanya.

    Nakakahiya na pong maging pilipino base sa mga nababasa ko sa isang filipino pageant forum. Masakit po tanggapin pero LIKAS talaga sa lahing pilipino ang sumira sa kapwa, lalo na kapag ang ilang bagay na wala sa kanya ay nakikita nya na meron sa kanyang kapwa.

  16. Lovely ladies. I really wanna see a photo of Ariella with Miss France and Miss Puerto Rico; the ones she said were her biggest competitors.
