The finals of Miss USA 2012 won’t be until June 3 (at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada), but I have already filtered the 50+1 delegates to just the seven I am putting my bets on as potential winner and their Miss Universe 2012 representative.
Here are the seven I am liking in a major way, and in this order of preference:
Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island
Michelle Leonardo of New Jersey
Brittany Booker of Texas
Catherine Muldoon of Virginia
Alaina Bergsma of Oregon (she stands 6'3"!!!)
Audrey Bolte of Ohio
Katherine Webb of Alabama
Now if you insist that I complete a Top 10, I would add Natalie Pack of California, Nitaya Panemalaythong of Minnesota and Ashley Hooks of Illinois.

Ashley Hooks of illinois
Nitaya Panemalaythong of Minnesota

During my recent trip to Bangkok, I made sure of reserving a day just for Terminal 21 – the City of Smiles’ latest addition to its ever-growing number of shopping malls. I simply love the concept of the place. Designed like an airport terminal, each floor has a country theme that evokes specialty shops. Level M1 is Caribbean (Popular Thai and International brands), Level M is Paris (Mixed), Level 1 is Tokyo (Women’s/Teens Wear), Level 2 is London (Men’s Wear), Level 3 is Istanbul (Jewelries, Accessories), Level 4 is San Francisco (Dining) and Level 5 is an extension of San Francisco which includes the Multiplex. What makes this mall different from the others? Well, it looks and feels like a high-end place, but the independent shops dotting the Paris, London and Istanbul levels make Terminal 21 such an attractive venue to splurge your money (or credit limit) in. In fact, if you’re good at reasonable bargaining, you can get some excellent buys. And the most creative of local clothing manufacturers have joined hands to give shoppers the most unique options. In short, the expensive looks from the outside are just for show because there are really no high-end stores/boutiques inside. It is practically an homage of a mall for the more price-conscious but ambiance-particular among Thais and tourists alike.
Here are some interior shots I took of the place:
It can be dizzying looking down from where I took this photo. The long escalator is actually a short cut from M level to all the dining places in San Francisco level.
It was pure joy checking out the independent shops in the Paris and London levels.
Here's a view of Terminal 21's entrance coming from the BTS Asoke Skytrain station.
By the way, don’t worry if you just want to plain window shop. The food level offers a wide variety of mouth-watering choices and all priced competitively. A good number of my favorite eateries (e.g. Hachiban 8 and Oishi) have branches here. And if you have a thing about rest rooms, you will be pleased to know that all the toilet bowls are heated (imported from Japan) and the wash room designs adjusting to the theme of each level.
Terminal 21 has an excellent location. It is right at the corner where BTS Asoke (skytrain) and MTR Sukhumvit (subway) meet. If you’re a lazy bone and want to be super close, book a room at Grand Centrepoint Hotel & Residence – Sukhumvit Terminal 21 which has its own access to the mall. Otherwise, some of the walking distance hotel options here are The Key Bangkok, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Westin Sukhumvit, Radisson Sukhumvit, Kingston Suites, City Lodge Soi 19 and Sacha’s Hotel Uno which you can book HERE.
Happy Shopping! 😀
Miss Universe Philippines 2012 Janine Tugonon atop the float that paraded her around Balanga, Bataan - her hometown.
Miss Universe Philippines 2012 Janine Tugonon took time out from her busy schedule to return to her hometown in Balanga, Bataan to acknowledge her family, friends, ka-probinsiyas, supporters and town officials who stood by her in Bb. Pilipinas 2012. She was honored during a parade which brought her along the main streets, much to the delight of everyone in attendance.
This homecoming reminds me so much of Shamcey Supsup last year when she visited Gensan shortly after her victory in Bb. Pilipinas 2011.
Looking at the photo above, don’t you agree that Janine is getting lovelier by the day? I hope she keeps it up. 😉
Fresh from the victory of his ward Nicole Schmitz in Bb. Pilipinas 2012, beauty queen-maker Rodgil Flores is now re-channeling his energy to the 12 ladies he has fielded for Miss Philippines Earth 2012. Collectively called “Kagandahang Flores, six of these ladies are – in my opinion – strong candidates in the environment-focused pageant. Check out the photos below courtesy of Gelbert Aplal of Rouge Studio +:
Maricel Manson of Candon, Ilocos Sur
Samantha Purvor of San Juan City
Jaydielou Dilidili of Indang, Cavite
Princess Manzon of San Francisco, Cebu (remember her as one the PBB Housemates?)
Roxanne Corluy of the Filipino Community in Belgium
Kathleen Subijano of Muntinlupa City
Knowing the unpredictability of MPE’s results, I could not yet forecast if one of the ladies above will walk away with the crown. Suffice it to say, all six are stand-outs and it would be a shame if not one of them gets to dominate Miss Philippines Earth 2012 on May 27.
What do you think, dear readers? 🙂
Representing Bacolod City in Miss Philippines Earth 2012, above is Dianne Dreyfuss' bio in the pageant's website
Just when some pageant followers (including this blogger) were expecting that Dianne Dreyfus will join Bb. Pilipinas 2012, I was a bit surprised that she enlisted for Miss Philippines Earth 2012 instead. And I’m not belittling the latter. It’s just that my sources then were telling me that she is more interested in BBP.
Anyways, Bacolod City has a particularly alluring candidate in her. And I won’t be surprised if she takes the competition by (a mild) storm. Let’s hope Carousel Productions gets rid of the multiple eliminations prior to finals night in order to give everyone a fair shot/exposure for the crown till May 27.
What do you think? Would’ve the BBP results been different if she took part? Or is Dianne a better fit for MPE?
Let’s now focus on the Miss Philippines Earth 2012 candidates who crossed over from BBP or MWP.
All crossovers from Bb. Pilipinas 2011 (L-R) Samantha Purvor of San Juan City, Kathleen Subijano of Muntinlupa City and Glennifer Perido of Tabuk City (Photo credit: Melvin Sia/OPMB Worldwide)
I’m pretty sure you’re all familiar with the three ladies above. They participated (and lost) in Bb. Pilipinas 2011. One of them, Samantha Purvor, even took full advantage of her youth last year by taking part in Miss World Philippines 2011 as well. No victories to speak of, but still with the potentials to win one. As part of this year’s roster of Miss Philippines Earth, they are capitalizing on their good communication skills (aside from physical beauty) to finally make a dent in the national pageant scene. Will they be more successful this time around?
Kathleen Subijano, the younger sister of Bb. Pilipinas World 1994 Cara Subijano, is giving the environmentally-focused competition a try, aiming to exceed her semifinal placement in Bb. Pilipinas 2011. The more articulate Samantha Purvor, on the other hand, is dead set in fulfilling a life-long dream of becoming a beauty queen. And Glennifer Perido? She wasn’t able to create ripples in BBP, so she enlisted right after in Miss Casino Filipino 2011 where she snagged 1st Runner-Up honors to eventual winner Catrine Rosary Ocampo (an alumna of Miss Philippines Earth 2011).
Who will be most successful among the three? I’m betting on Samantha Purvor in this one. She’s the one who fits what the organizers would love to have as their winner – smart, pretty and well-spoken. But who knows what magic Kathleen and Glennifer will weave in the contest? And lest we forget, there are several other contenders who will give them a run for their money.
Anyways, best of luck to all three in MPE 2012! May you serve as true role models for the preservation of Mother Earth! 😉
So we’re over and done with Bb. Pilipinas 2012. Let’s move now to Miss Philippines Earth 2012. After Carousel Productions held their Press Presentation right in the middle of all the BBP frenzy, I was never able to blog about that event anymore. Anyways, check out the following contenders…
(All images above are courtesy of the Miss Philippines Earth website)
Photographic proofs tell us that the Philippines does not run out of gorgeous Filipinas joining beauty pageants. Just consider the 50 Official Candidates (only 48 are shown updated above) of Miss Philippines Earth 2012. I’m actually near-impressed with the roster this year. In fact, if not for the middling heights of most and still-unpolished qualities of some, I would say that this batch can go head-to-head with either Bb. Pilipinas or Miss World Philippines on any given day. But then again, I might be going too far singing with my praises. Let’s just follow the ladies up until the coronation night on May 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Center Stage, to be aired on a slightly delayed telecast over at ABS-CBN.
At this point, I am liking Dianne Dreyfus of Bacolod City, Maricel Manson of Candon City, Glenna Christina Duch of Negros Oriental, Ina Dominica Guerrero of Daraga and Samantha Purvor of San Juan City.
Who are your types so far? 😉
