Apparently, there’s a third international beauty contest having its’ finals tomorrow night – Miss Yacht Club International 2011 – in Haikou, China. I don’t have a clear idea about the relevance and objective of this competition, except that it is a modelling tilt where around 60 delegates are enlisted. I’m not sure what to make of it as well since the Chinese are so fond of creating and hosting new pageants that don’t really last for more than a year or two (think Miss Leisure International or Miss Friendship International).
From an outsider’s point of view, are the participants crazy about the USD10,000 cash prize and to travel to Haikou or are they (pardon the term) leftover thank-you girls in their respective countries’ 2nd-tier contests who just want to go international? Their photoshoot aboard a yacht is way too tacky and literal to be taken seriously. I don’t know whether to laugh or start to worry about the ladies in a way.
Be that as it may, your perception is as good as mine if you’re a regular pageant observer or enthusiast. I’m giving the organizers a miniscule benefit of the doubt. Let’s see what happens next.
