If you have been living under the rock for the past week, you wouldn’t know that Thai superstar Mario Maurer is in the country right now for his formal launch as Brand Ambassador of Penshoppe during the Philippine Fashion Week. His turn on the ramp will happen tonight at 7:30PM (Hall 2, SMX Convention Center). Unfortunately, the show is strictly by invitation. And no more invites are available. 😦
There is also confirmed news that Mario signed a one-picture contract with ABS Star Cinema where he will be paired with ‘Maria La Del Barrio’ Erich Gonzales for a romantic-comedy movie that will be shot mostly in Thailand. With the working title of “Suddenly It’s Magic”, the project should be very, very interesting. I was hoping that Kim Chiu would be his partner (a friend in Bangkok told me that chinitas are his weakness), but it turns out that Erich landed the enviable spot!
In the meantime, let’s enjoy his presence! If you’re crazy head-over-heels over him and would like to take a chance at seeing him tonight at SMX, give it a try. Who knows, he may openly mingle with all the guests after the show, lose the security cordon surrounding him and you just might end up getting a photo op with him.
Below, watch one of Mario’s TVCs released earlier this year.

Mario Maurer is adorably gorgeous!
If and when cute Mario – who is of Thai/German lineage – decides to carry some semblance of a showbiz career here in the Philippines, I’m certain that he will become more popular. He doesn’t need to reside in Manila for long periods, but just shuttle back and forth from Bangkok where he is permanently based. 😉
Thought of sharing these various videos of the Miss World 2011 Contestants while enjoying the beauty of Scotland.

Miss World Philippines Gwendoline Ruais
Below is the video profile of Miss World Philippines 2011 Gwendoline Ruais for the competition. Except for the less than desirable hair styling (or lack of it), I like what I saw and heard. She has an easy, laid-back vibe that adds up to a spontaneous aura in the 30-seconder.

Thoughts, anyone? 🙂
Bangkok, Thailand no more...Miss Earth 2011 returns home to Manila, Philippines
The culprit...the flooding in Thailand which has already reached Bangkok.
Because of the non-stop flooding in Thailand which has already affected the capital of Bangkok, the Thai organizers of Miss Earth 2011 have decided to scrap their hosting of the pageant this year. As a result, the environment-focused competition will be brought back to the Philippines which will now scramble to make a decent last-minute organization of the 2011 edition. The new date of the finals will be December 4, 2011.
Here is the letter sent by Carousel Productions to all contestants and national directors:
“We have tried to remain optimistic about the situation in Thailand but day after day, the flood continues to engulf more portions of the country including its capital, Bangkok, where Miss Earth 2011 is scheduled to be held. Factories are shutting down and millions have been displaced from their work and homes. We understand and sympathize with the unfortunate and difficult situation Bangkok is undergoing especially after the Thai government recently declared indefinite holidays for everyone’s safety. Thai officials estimate it might take 4-6 weeks for the floods to recede and recovery could take months, if not years.
To continue to hold Miss Earth in Bangkok would be very insensitive and irresponsible on our part. Accordingly, we have decided to change the venue of Miss Earth 2011 from Bangkok, Thailand to where it all started: the Philippines. We are at this very moment planning and lining up meaningful activities for you that will be true to our mission as beauties for a cause. In our workshops, we shall discuss these natural calamities and what we can do to control their effects on our respective countries.”
So there…Miss Earth is back where it originally belongs.

What makes the event more special is the presence of Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup who is now an official endorser of Lee Jeans. If you want to watch, just head over to the venue and don’t be late so you can get a good seat or standing space. 😉
Miss Humanity International 2011 2nd Runner-Up Czarina Gatbonton returns from Barbados.
Fresh from her third place finish in the very first Miss Humanity International held in Bridgetown, Barbados late last week, Czarina Gatbonton quietly slipped into the country after a back-breaking 28-hour flight from the Caribbean.
Aside from placing 2nd Runner-Up, Czarina was also given two other special awards – Best in Talent and Humanitarian Queen for Asia-Pacific. As part of her duties, she will be involved in humanitarian projects focusing on children’s rights. She will also be travelling next year to Lesotho, South Africa and Venezuela to act as judge in these countries’ respective national searches for the next Miss Humanity International representatives.
Welcome back, Czarina! 😉

Miss Philippines Dianne Necio (seated 2nd from left) enjoys the several tours around Chengdu together with the other candidates.
Let’s see how things get heated up once the real competition begins next week, right before the finals on November 6. 😉
