One of the most looked-forward to film festivals on the US East Coast – and the Big Apple in particular – is the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) which gives New York (and out-of-state) audiences a filling taste of new movies and trends in Asian cinema. It runs from June 25-July 8 at the Walter Reade Theater of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, from July 1-4 at the Japan Society with midnights on June 25-26 and July 2-4 at the IFC Center. It is interesting to note that there is quite a heavy serving of Japanese and Hongkong flicks this year, with some dash of Mainland Chinese, Korean, Indonesian and Thai entries to spice up the line-up even more.
Here are some of the festival films that you should not give a miss:
IP MAN from Hongkong
8000 MILES from Japan
CHAW from Korea
DEATH KAPPA from Japan (Looks low-budget, but definitely a throwback to the cult classic ‘Godzilla’)
BODYGUARDS & ASSASINS from Hongkong
and one of my favorites……
COW from Mainland China
There are many more worth-queueing-for titles to choose from. Visit NYAFF 2010’s website for the complete line-up.
