Another Pinoy indie movie is set to invade foreign film festivals abroad. “Sanglaan” (The Pawnshop), a film directed by Milo Sogueco and which won for Ina Feleo and Tessie Tomas the Cinemalaya Cinco Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards, respectively, has been invited to compete in the 15th Lyon Asian Film Festival in Lyon, France next month.
The movie revolves around the lives of five people associated with a closing pawnshop – the female owner who is afraid of aging, a female employee who wants to express her love for a long-time crush, and the security guard concerned with his sick wife. There are also additionally intertwined characters of a seaman and a loan shark that bring conflict to the shoe-box existence of the pawnshop fixtures.
