Karen Gallman: a Ximena deadringer for Bb. Pilipinas 2012?

Some people say that this girl has some semblance to Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete. Some people may not agree and reject the comparison outright. But one thing that cannot be denied is the fact that she is one good- looking babe. This Filipina-Australian can definitely make heads turn, aside from her decent height of 5’7″.

The name Karen Gallman doesn’t ring a bell after first hearing. The oddly-spelled surname may even raise the eyebrows of a few biotches who would snap at seeing the Filipino-sounding family name get an extra L to make it foreign to the ear. Regardless, this 19 year-old is one fine specimen who can invade the Bb. Pilipinas 2012 screenings and breeze through the various cuts all the way to being named an Official Candidate. Don’t you think so, dear readers? ;-)

Miss Universe 2011 is Leila Lopes of Angola!

The dust has settled a bit after Miss Angola LEILA LULIANA DA COSTA VIEIRA LOPES nailed a glorious achievement by winning the Miss Universe 2011 crown – the 60th in a long line of titleholders from the 1950s to the present. She surpassed the competition from 88 equally stunning ladies during the worldwide telecast of the biggest global pageant from Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

First Runner-Up is Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine. Second Runner-Up is Priscila Machado of Brazil, with 3rd Runner-Up honors going to Shamcey Supsup of the Philippines. Completing the Top 5 is 4th Runner-Up Zilin Luo of China. Heavy favorites from the USA and Venezuela reached the Top 16, but no further than that. The biggest shock, though, was the non-inclusion of ever-popular Miss Malaysia Deborah Henry in the quarterfinals. It must have come as a shock to her countrymen. And the surprise of the night, on the other hand, is Miss Portugal Laura Goncalvez making it to the Top 10. Hometown bet Priscila Machado made the Brazilians proud when she climbed all the way to 2nd Runner-Up.

Miss Universe 2011 and Operation Smile

The Operation Smile Ladies (L-R) Miss Brazil Priscila Machado, Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup, Miss Venezuela Vanessa Goncalves, and Miss China Luo Zilin.

According to the Official Website of Operation Smile, the charity organization helps in healing children’s smiles around the world. With a presence in around 60 countries, it endeavors to give a better life for the little ones with facial defornities and whose parents cannot afford to have them removed.

(L-R) Miss China Luo Zilin, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup, and Miss Venezuela Vanessa Goncalves were handpicked by the Miss Universe Organization to represent the pageant in the Operation Smile event together with host delegate Miss Brazil Priscila Machado (not in picture) and Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete (not in picture).

One special event of Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil is Operation Smile. For this, reigning Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete plus four delegates were selected by the organizers to take part in the same. Misses Brazil Priscila Machado, China Luo Zilin, Philippines Shamcey Supsup and Venezuela Vanessa Goncalves. Each one of them were asked to relate their thoughts and/or fondness with the organization.

I’m actually quite pleased that our very own Shamcey was chosen to join 3 other ladies to grace the activity. It only goes to show that her natural warmth and friendliness is shining through. In fact, many candidates – such as Misses Brazil and China – are finding her nice enough to tweet their liking. I wouldn’t be surprised if she finds herself effortlessly gunning for the Miss Congeniality award. Of course, we all know that the ultimate target is the Miss Universe crown. But if one can be sincerely affable all throughout, why not? In beauty pageants where intrigues and internal politics abound in the sidelines, it is refreshing to see true friendships bloom in the process. Go, go, go Shamcey! ;-)

Miss Universe 2011: The first photoshoot

These girls are having the time of their lives – glitz and glamour all around. But beneath the make-up, the tassles, the false eyelashes and all, there is a raging competition going on. And to survive the game, each one of them can never allow the next girl to shine better or pose fiercer.

If you watch the video above, this photoshoot is just one of the several the candidates will subject themselves to and wherein Fadil Berisha controls the shots (no pun intended). It’s all fun despite the non-stop activities. All for the Miss Universe 2011 crown! ;-)

There’s nothing like being the reigning Miss Universe…

It’s true. There’s nothing like being the reigning Miss Universe, especially in the homestretch of one’s reign. Take Ximena Navarrete, for example. She is having the time of her life in Sao Paulo at the moment. No pressures whatsoever. So she is definitely enjoying every minute of it, while being treated like royalty from sunrise to sundown.

Of course, everything changes the moment she transfers the Diamond Nexus Lab Miss Universe crown on her successor’s head come September 12. She won’t be as mobbed and adulated anymore. But the good thing is that she can start a new life that offers more opportunities, either in Mexico or anywhere else in North and South America. And that is when the reality of a post-reigning Miss Universe’s existence starts to sink in.

For now, enjoy the high life, Ximena! ;-)

Most Wanted: Tickets to the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant

There were talks that tickets to the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil are no longer available after the host country has allegedly pre-booked all seats in the venue. Some camps hollered in dismay, especially the ones who are spending exorbitant amounts of money to travel all the way to Sao Paulo just to see the finals live.

Good thing the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) fixed the situation and the early birds can still get theirs. But the availability remains very limited so it’s better to reserve or pre-pay now than risk going there without tickets in your pockets. Here is the press release (as posted by 2010 Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete herself) from MissUniverse.com:

First off, where’s Donald Trump in the video? Shouldn’t he be part of it? As Santa Claus maybe?

Anyways, the crown jewels of Miss Universe Organization – Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih and Miss Teen USA 2010 Kamie Crawford – joined forces to make a Christmas Video for all their fans and supporters.

Do you cheesy dig it?

It could’ve been better but all for the spirit of Christmas, let’s all have fun and enjoy the Season! :-)

It’s going to be a Beauty Carnival in Sao Paulo for Miss Universe 2011!

This is a fabulously splashy news for all pageant fans around the world. For the very first time, Brazil will host the globe’s biggest beauty competition and host city will be Sao Paulo for Miss Universe 2011!

According to Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete’s Twitter – @The Real Miss U – Miss Universe Organization owner Donald Trump is now reunited with Brazilian officials signing the contract that grants the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to host the 2011 Miss Universe pageant. It would be the first time Brazil hosts the pageant, which reunites 85 beauties from all over the world every year. The finals would take place on Monday, September 12th.

Here’s the press release:

Sao Paulo, Brazil to host the 2011 Miss Universe pageant
Dec 16, 2010 NEW YORK – Donald J. Trump, NBC Universal and Miss Universe Organization President, Paula M. Shugart, announced today the 60th Annual MISS UNIVERSE® Competition will air live from Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011. The glamorous live event, featuring the most beautiful women in the universe, will air on NBC in the United States, with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo.

“I am very pleased to announce our partnership with media conglomerate Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicacao and the selection of Sao Paulo as the host location for Miss Universe 2011,” said the pageant’s owner, Donald J. Trump. “Brazil is rapidly becoming an economic powerhouse and is a great place to do business. This decade, Brazil is hosting three of the greatest and most-watched worldwide events: the World Cup, the Summer Olympic Games and now, to kick it all off, Miss Universe.”

“Grupo Bandeirantes is delighted that we have reached an agreement with the Miss Universe Organization to host the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil,” said the network’s president, Joao Carlos Saad. “We believe it is fitting for Brazil to set the stage for this glamorous event, and we look forward to showing the contestants, and the almost 200 countries around the world who watch the pageant every year, the exciting and vibrant culture of our beautiful country.”

Contestants from more than 80 countries around the world will travel to Brazil for almost a month of activities leading up to the live telecast. They will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview, as they vie for the coveted title of Miss Universe 2011. This is first time in its 60-year history the Miss Universe contest will be held in Brazil.

Mexicana, Ximena Navarrete, Miss Universe 2010, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the telecast. During her reign, Navarrete has traveled the world as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education, research, and legislation. The next Miss Universe will continue this work.

This piece of good news is exciting me big time! I’ve long dreamed of the Miss Universe being held in Brazil and it will come true next year! :-)

Global Beauties’ Final Leaderboard for Miss Universe 2010 (8/23)

Global Beauties released its final leaderboard for Miss Universe 2010 going into the finals of the pageant in just a few hours.

They have Miss Ireland, Rozanna Purcell, as their top pick with Ximena Navarrete of Mexico, Venus Raj of the Philippines, Irina Antonenko of Russia and LaToya Woods of Trinidad & Tobago completing the Top 5.

Interestingly, they specified a separate group of girls tagged as members of Trump Class and which include the ladies from Canada, Slovak Republic, Great Britain, Romania and Poland. We all know how Donald Trump is enamored by ladies from Central Europe and those with descent from the same.

Let’s see how their list compares to the actual results.

We’ll have a new Miss Universe very very soon! ;-)

Here are my final picks for Miss Universe 2010

Since all the armchair and cyber judges out there have revealed their choices for Miss Universe 2010, I’m coming up with my own as well. I shortlisted twenty (20) ladies who could make the first cut on Finals Night and divided them into four groups of five. The ladies who might end up in the Top 5 are in the first set, with the succeeding ladies ranked and grouped thereafter as semifinalists. I intentionally avoided tagging any specific lady as the winner so everything is random per group. Here goes…

Miss Mexico, Ximena Navarrete

Miss Philippines, Venus Raj

Miss Venezuela, Marelisa Gibson

Miss Russia, Irina Antonenko

Miss Puerto Rico, Mariana Vicente

Miss Ireland, Rozanna Purcell

Miss USA, Rima Fakih

Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell

Miss Colombia, Natalia Navarro

Miss Trinidad & Tobago, LaToya Woods

Miss Slovak Republic, Anna Amenova

Miss Albania, Angela Martini

Miss Panama, Anyoli Abrego

Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillips

Miss France, Malika Menard

Miss Thailand, Fonthip Watcharatrakul

Miss Brazil, Debora Lyra

Miss Ghana, Awurama Simpson

Miss Japan, Maiko Itai

Miss Greece, Anna Prelevic

Among the Top 5 in my list, I can actually see any of them winning the title. Spoilers could be the delegates from Australia and Ireland.

So who are your bets? ;-)
