Before 2009, Jennifer Mendoza (Miss Mindanao or 3rd Runner-Up during Miss RP 1976/77) was the tallest beauty contest participant in the world, measuring 6’4.5″.
During Miss Earth 2009, though, Aheu Deng of South Sudan wasn’t just the tallest beauty contestant ever, but also the tallest beauty queen who participated in a major international beauty competition. She measured 6’4.8″. While she lost then, she left a mark and a (unofficial) record that remains unbeaten up to now.
Going back to Jennifer Mendoza, there is very little to be researched about her. All I know is that she kept a very low profile after her pageant stint and actually had a medical condition – I believe it had something to do with goiter or the like – years later.
At least, it’s good to know that we have already produced the second-tallest beauty pageant joiner both here and abroad. ;-)

Miss Universe Italy 2013 Luna Voce

Okay, except for the literal translation of her Italian name to English, there really is no significant connection between being the ‘voice of the moon’ and vying for the title of Miss Universe 2013.
Anyways, Luna Isabella Voce is already a familiar face to most of us, after taking part in Miss Earth 2009 as Miss Italy. She was still 21 back then and a relative newbie in the beauty pageant game. Now at 25, she may have enriched her life with many challenges and experiences as an individual, but assuming the title of her country’s most beautiful woman is giving her the most important responsibility so far. And in a year like 2013 where the line-up of delegates for Miss Universe is getting more and more tough by the month, the prospects of laying claim to a crown everyone wants to call her own won’t be as crystal-clear even to the most confident rep.
Will this tall Italian from Milan create a howling presence in Moscow? We’ll see. ;-)
When Korinna (L) refused the crown, Brigitta was next in line for the honor.
I can’t remember a time when a beauty contestant refused her placement right after being announced as one of the winners in a live national finals, until now.

During the coronation of Miss Hungary 2013, three winners should have been given the tiara and sash – one each for Miss World, Miss Universe and Miss Intercontinental. The girl chosen as 3rd placer – Korinna Kocsis (who took part in ME2009) – would have been crowned as Miss Hungary Imtercontinental. On the spot, she refused to accept the title as she had only expected to place in the Top 2. As a result, Brigitta Timar (who was next in line) was given the honor instead.
Amusing, right? Something like this will never happen in the Philippines. And if it does, the automatic reaction is not to spoil the pageant proceedings and hold a separate press conference in exchange for making a scene.
Only in Hungary, I must say. ;-)
The stage looks great! And the ladies are having the time of their lives in Nha Trang, Vietnam!
Don’t forget that this coming Saturday, December 4, the coronation night of Miss Earth 2010 will unfold. Who will be the successor of Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos? Who will be the Elemental Beauties – Misses Water, Air and Fire – this year?
The answers rest on the hands of these ten (10) individuals who will serve as this year’s Board of Judges:

From the Miss Earth website:
MISS EARTH 2010 in VIETNAM
VIETNAM, born with compelling history and vivid landscapes has been described by Lonely Planet as ” the last Asian dragon to awaken its slumber”. Now it has open its door to one significant beauty event, MISS EARTH, for the world to see its natural wonders this December.
Vietnam is widely known as a country with a hidden tropical charm. With the beautiful S-shaped strip of land closely surrounding the mysterious Indochina, Vietnam can easily fascinate visitors. Coming to Vietnam, visitors will have a chance to not only enjoy numberless beauty spots that the nature has generously endowed this country with but also find out about about plenty of traditional and modern Vietnamese cultural backgrounds…….
Miss Earth 2010 will officially start on November 4. The month-long event will include exciting activities in Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Hoi An and other locations. Besides the environmental activities, the candidates will have a national costume show, swimsuit and evening competitions.
The finale and coronation show is scheduled to take place on December 4th at Vinpearl Land, Nha Trang.
The Amphitheatre inside the amuesement park of Vinpearl Nha Trang Resort & Spa will be the venue of Miss Earth 2010.
Watch out for more updates about Miss Earth 2010. It’s going to be a busy pageant season once again since two other beauty competitions – Miss World and Miss International – to be held in China will be coming this month till early next. ;-)
Miss Universe-Spain 2010 Adriana Reveron
The scheduled finals of Miss Espana 2010 has been pegged for September 25 in Toledo. As a result, the organizers decided to call in previous participants and placers, all 14 of them, from where the country’s Miss Universe representative in Las Vegas next month will be selected. Running out of time, they picked the Top 3 from those who joined. Adriana Reveron of Tenerife, formerly Miss Earth-Spain back in 2008, was named winner and is now getting ready to leave for Sin City. The other two ladies who closely pursued her are 1st Runner-Up Tania Ladeiro who was Miss Las Palmas 2005, while the familiar-looking Alejandra Echevarria of Jaen (Miss Earth-Spain and Miss Fire 2009) picked 2nd Runner-Up honors.
(L-R) Alejandra Echevarria, 2nd Runner-Up; Adriana Reveron, Miss Espana Universe 2010 and Tania Ladeiro, 1st Runner-Up.
Clearly, there was a bit of mad scramble to name the Miss Universe representative of Spain, especially that they announced the selections shortly after the country’s World Cup victory, possibly riding the wave of frenzy and excitement that continues to spur the adrenaline rush in every Spaniard. Will this sit well with the Miss Universe organization? I’m not sure, but Adriana will do her darndest best to hopefully continue the winning streak.
Will Adriana's Miss Earth experience help once she mounts the Miss Universe stage in Las Vegas?
In a separate news not pageant-related, the Madrid Zoo has offered to buy Paul the Octopus from Germany and pay tribute by giving the cephalopod a special residence in their animal park after correctly predicting Spain’s win in the World Cup. If this deal pushes through, then wouldn’t it be more nerve-wracking for the poor creature if they placed more than 80 flag-designed boxes in his aquarium and expect him to forecast which country will win Miss Universe 2010? Just a crazy thought to set up my manic Monday, guys!
Buena suerte, Adriana! ;-)
This is a belated post. Just days before the finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010, the selection of Mr. Philippines-Earth 2010 was held to coincide with the pre-pageant activities of the former. John Reyes, a 5’11” 20 year-old fashion model and student of University of Santo Tomas, was proclaimed winner at the Concourse Plaza of Manila Ocean Park last April 22. I’m not definite yet if he will be fielded as the country’s bet to an international Mr. Earth competition, but will give updates in this blog.

John was awarded by reigning Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos and Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 Sandra Seifert during the event.
Congratulations, John! ;-)
