Driely Bennettone: Gunning for a 3rd Miss Earth crown for Brazil

Miss Earth-Brazil 2011 Driely Bennettone is, quite simply, sensually exotic.

With a name like Driely Bennettone, you simply can’t ignore Brazil’s representative to Miss Earth 2011. The 22 year-old beauty from Sao Paulo stands a towering 1.84m (a shade above 6′) and works as a fashion model when she is not busy with her studies in Theatre Arts at the Faculdade de Administração de Empresas.

With Brazil being one of the most environmentally-involved countries in the world, it follows that their citizens are very much concerned with the preservation of Mother Earth. For Drielly, her platform consists of:

…” creating regular programs in schools that will involve taking care of Mother Earth. I would like schools to teach sustainability theories along with the usual subjects, like Math, Science and Language. With the youth of Brazil educated on environmental awareness, we our sector of sustainable growth will develop. We must get all citizens involved in protecting the environment, by educating them on the importance of nurturing nature, people and animals. If education begins when the citizens are young, then the reality of an eco-friendly society will be achieved faster.”

This Brazilian is one of the ladies to watch out for this year. I believe that she possesses the beauty, poise and sincere commitment that Priscila Meirelles and Larissa Ramos (both former Miss Earth winners from Brazil) have. Will she be the 3rd Brazilian to win the crown? ;-)

Miss Earth 2010: Deep into rehearsals for the finals!

The stage looks great! And the ladies are having the time of their lives in Nha Trang, Vietnam!

Don’t forget that this coming Saturday, December 4, the coronation night of Miss Earth 2010 will unfold. Who will be the successor of Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos? Who will be the Elemental Beauties – Misses Water, Air and Fire – this year?

The answers rest on the hands of these ten (10) individuals who will serve as this year’s Board of Judges:
• Mike Rosenthal – Hollywood photographer to the stars; guest photographer and judge on the TV show “America’s Next Top Model”
• Marie J.Y.E. Collart – Actress, Producer, Publicist, and Spokesperson to American and French Stars
• Rachel Grant de Longueuil – Hollywood Actress and Eco-Activist
• Ella Bella – Youth Ambassador for the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)
• Eddy Tan – Head, Star World, FX, [V]. TVN & Nat Geo
• Karla Paula Henry – Miss Earth 2008
• Nenad Bratic – Famous architect of Aedas Interiors Company in Hong Kong
• Pham Sanh Chau – Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO
• Hoang Dai Thanh – Chief Editor of the Journal of Young Fashion Designers
• Nguyen Nhu Quynh – Vietnamese Artist; many of her designs were selected for exhibition at the Musée de Mode, Paris in 2010. She is also a Violinist and a Dancer

Below is the dance rehearsal video of the ladies’ opening number:

There will be two telecasts in the Philippines – one at 9pm over cable channel StarWorld and another at a later hour on ABS-CBN Channel 2.

And watch out for my hot picks for the crown come Saturday morning! ;-)

Miss Earth 2010 Best in National Costume (what a nice surprise!)

Miss Earth-Japan Marina Kishira won the 2010 Miss Earth National Costume competition.

video courtesy of YouTube/DangVPN

I must admit that Miss Earth-Japan Marina Kishira’s National Costume doesn’t look like one at all. In fact, it could pass for the Evening Gown Parade if you ask me, albeit tacky it may seem in design. But then again, the judges must have scored her high in presentation skills because she carried the outfit with such clockwork precision, coupled with sharp turns and poses (as you can see in the video above). That could be the only reason why she upended the other ladies in the Top 4, namely, Luisa de Almeida Lopes of Brazil, Jennifer Pazmino of Ecuador, Nondyedo Dzingwa of South Africa and Claudia Lopez Mollinedo of Mexico.

The announcement of the winner was made by Miss Earth 2009, Larissa Ramos.

Outside the Top 5 above, here are my personal favorites in their National Costumes:

Mariangela Bonanni of Venezuela

Lee Gui-Joo of Korea

Nicolle Morrell of Panama

Luu Thii Diem Huong of Vietnam

Watsaporn Wattanakoon of Thailand

Kudos to Miss Earth-Japan! ;-)

Miss Earth 2010: Here are the ladies I like so far…

Nicole Faria (India)

Mariangela Bonanni (Venezuela)

Yeidy Bosques (Puerto Rico)

Kelly Louise McGuire (Australia)

Ilenia Arnolfo (Italy)

Sandra Vester (Denmark)

Luu Thi Diem Huong (Vietnam)

Luisa Lopez (Brazil)

Nondyebo Dzingwa (South Africa)

Claudia Lopez Mollinedo (Mexico)

Desiree van den Berg (Netherlands)

Mihiatea Ruta (French Polynesia)

Still too early to tell to make a shortlist of my hot favorites for Miss Earth 2010, but the 12 ladies above have initially caught my eyes. What I’m sure of, though, is that there will be a fierce battle between India and Venezuela for this year’s crown because both of them are just effortless stand-outs!

I’m sure these two will raise the level of competition to the highest as they vie for Larissa Ramos’ crown!

The more than 80 Miss Earth 2010 delegates have their eyes fixed on that crown above Larissa Ramos' head!

Let’s see as the upcoming weeks progress, by which time I can commit to a more solid list of picks for the crown! ;-)

Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 Kris Psyche Resus’ send-off to Miss Earth 2010

More than ready for Miss Earth 2010, Kris Psyche Resus is! (Photo credit: Melvin Sia of OPMB Worldwide)

Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 Kris Psyche Resus has the sole distinction of being the country’s representative to the first-ever Miss Earth to be hosted by another country. All roads lead to Nha Trang, Vietnam between now and December 4, by which time Miss Earth 2010 will have already been crowned by last year’s winner, Larissa Ramos of Brazil.

At Villa Immaculada in Intramuros, Manila, Carousel Productions hosted a formal send-off for Kris Psyche Resus. She is all set to leave for Vietnam to join more than 80 other ladies from all over the world to vie for the most unique and noteworthy international beauty pageant title – Miss Earth. She knows that the chances of becoming the 2nd Filipina to win Miss Earth are not the brightest (since the people behind it are all Filipinos and making another Miss Philippines get the crown in only 2 years’ time might not sit well with most), but she is extremely focused and determined to give it her best shot.

Personally, I will be pleased seeing her place as high as the Top 8, if not one of the court elementals in the Final 4. To say that she will be facing extremely tough competition would be an understatement because majority of the delegates have either been selected as representatives in Miss Earth-dedicated searches or as part of the winners’ circle in their biggest national finals. In fact, Osmel Sousa has already acquired the ME franchise for Venezuela which means that he will be sending over one of his thoroughbreds starting this year, with a formally-conferred Miss Venezuela-Earth 2011 (Caroline Medina) coming to Manila next year. This goes to show that the pageant is already being taken seriously by all participating countries.

Lending their moral support during Kris Psyche Resus' send-off were Miss Earth-Air 2009 Sandra Seifert (L) and Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry (Photo credit: Melvin Sia of OPMB Worldwide)

Other well-wishers who graced the send-off were: (L) the gorgeous Miss Philippines-Air 2010 Emmerie Dale Cunanan and Miss Philippines-Eco-Tourism 2010 Angela Fernando (Photo credit: Melvin Sia of OPMB Worldwide)

Here’s wishing Kris Psyche Resus the best of luck in Miss Earth 2010! ;-)

From the Miss Earth website:

MISS EARTH 2010 in VIETNAM

VIETNAM, born with compelling history and vivid landscapes has been described by Lonely Planet as ” the last Asian dragon to awaken its slumber”. Now it has open its door to one significant beauty event, MISS EARTH, for the world to see its natural wonders this December.

Vietnam is widely known as a country with a hidden tropical charm. With the beautiful S-shaped strip of land closely surrounding the mysterious Indochina, Vietnam can easily fascinate visitors. Coming to Vietnam, visitors will have a chance to not only enjoy numberless beauty spots that the nature has generously endowed this country with but also find out about about plenty of traditional and modern Vietnamese cultural backgrounds…….

Miss Earth 2010 will officially start on November 4. The month-long event will include exciting activities in Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Hoi An and other locations. Besides the environmental activities, the candidates will have a national costume show, swimsuit and evening competitions.

The finale and coronation show is scheduled to take place on December 4th at Vinpearl Land, Nha Trang.

The Amphitheatre inside the amuesement park of Vinpearl Nha Trang Resort & Spa will be the venue of Miss Earth 2010.

Watch out for more updates about Miss Earth 2010. It’s going to be a busy pageant season once again since two other beauty competitions – Miss World and Miss International – to be held in China will be coming this month till early next. ;-)

John Reyes wins Mr. Philippines-Earth 2010 title

This is a belated post. Just days before the finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010, the selection of Mr. Philippines-Earth 2010 was held to coincide with the pre-pageant activities of the former. John Reyes, a 5’11″ 20 year-old fashion model and student of University of Santo Tomas, was proclaimed winner at the Concourse Plaza of Manila Ocean Park last April 22. I’m not definite yet if he will be fielded as the country’s bet to an international Mr. Earth competition, but will give updates in this blog.

John was awarded by reigning Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos and Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 Sandra Seifert during the event.

Congratulations, John! ;-)

My final 15 picks for Miss Philippines-Earth 2010; the petites will shine bright!

Since the finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 will culiminate in a grand pageant tonight at the Manila Ocean Park, I will now be sharing my Top 15 picks for the crown., I’m pretty sure one of these ladies will take it all the way and become the country’s official representative to the Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam later this year. All the images below are courtesy of my good friend, Boyet Blas, of Mabuhay Beauties.

In no particular order, my personal choices are:

Miss Olongapo City Rosemary Joan Turner

Miss Mun. of Pandan Emerie Dale Cunanan

Miss Taguig City Nicole (Kaufmann) Ortega

Miss Meycauayan City Christine Hermoso

Miss Fil. Community of USA East Coast Rene McHugh

Miss Municipality of Lubao Angela Fernando

Miss Municipality of Infanta Kris Psyche Resus

Miss Fil. Community of France Gwennaelle Ruais

Miss Makati City Angelica Pasumbal

Miss Municipality of Kabacan Lady Lou Garidan

Miss Vigan City Marie Lorraine de Guzman

Miss Tagaytay City Nadine Karla de Roxas

Miss Municipality of Bongabong Abbygale Rey

Miss Cebu City Sian Elizabeth Maynard

Miss Tarlac City Aura Donna Garon

By international beauty pageant standards, a lady is considered petite if she stands 5’5″ and below. And since the more outstanding candidates this year belong to the 5’4″-5’5″ height category, I sub-titled this blog emphasizing that the petites will shine bright tonight. In fact – save for the amazonic Gwennaelle Ruais who is at least 6′ tall – majority of the ladies are taller than the average Filipina but shorter than the generally pronounced statistic when fielded abroad. Nonetheless, what more than makes up for this is the fact that a good number of the 49 contenders have very beautiful and charming faces as can be seen in my 15 selections above.

Anyways, if I had to whittle down the 15 to just my Top 5, at least 3 petites will enter the group and they are Pandan’s Emerie Dale Cunanan (gorgeous!), Infanta’s Kris Psyche Resus (beautiful face and sensuous aura), and Meycauayan City’s Christine Hermoso (sweet face and visibly toned – albeit less shapely – body). This trio can possibly be joined by Lubao’s Angela Fernando and Taguig City’s Nicole (Kaufmann) Ortega. Conversely, if the judges would favor statuesque – in keeping up with previous winners who stand a minimum of 5’7″ – then there’s a high probability that the Top 5 would include Fil-France’s Gwennaelle Ruais or Fil USA East-Coast’s Rene McHugh and even make either win in the process.

Unless one of the five really fails in the all-important environmental Q&A, Emerie, Nicole, Angela, Kris and Christine will likely come out on top.

Watch out for the delayed TV Telecast of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 on April 25, Sunday night over ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best. Reigning Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos of Brazil will grace the finals. ;-)

Miss Earth 2010 will be held in Vietnam

Good news to all pageant followers! Miss Earth 2010 will be held in Nha, Trang Vietnam in November. In its 10th year, the environment-focused beauty competition will start and end outside the Philippines. Carousel Productions has inked a contract with their Vietnamese counterparts for the full hosting of the globally-recognized pageant. It will be remembered that Vietnam successfully handled a sub-competition of Miss Earth a couple of years back. This gave them the edge against other country-contenders Indonesia, Cambodia and Miami (USA), on top of presenting a more well-prepared plan for the all-around logistics that come with hosting Miss Earth.

From hereon, Vietnam will host Miss Earth during even-numbered years (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2020) until 2020.

Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos will be travelling from Brazil to the Philippines all the way to Vietnam for Miss Earth 2010.

Here is a full report of the same:

Vietnam to host Miss Earth 2010
17:26′ 29/01/2010 (GMT+7)

VietNamNet Bridge – The organizer of the Miss Earth pageant, Carousel Company, signed a memorandum of understanding on January 28 with Vietnamese sponsors to hold the Miss Earth 2010 pageant in Vietnam this November.

The announcement came midst a ceremony at Legend Saigon Hotel in HCM City. In attendance were Ramon Monzon, Chair of Carousel, and Lorraine Schuck, Carousel’s Executive Manager, plus Vietnamese organizers, including Nguyen Cong Khe, Chairman of the Thanh Nien Media JS Company, Nguyen Quang Thong, editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper and Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vincom Group.

Carousel Chairman Ramon Monzon shared his thoughts.

Why has the Miss Earth board decided to organize the pageant in Nha Trang this year?

Ramon Monzon: 2010 is the tenth anniversary of the Miss Earth pageant. This is a big event, so we want to bring it outside the borders of the Philippines. Many countries wanted to host the event, such as Indonesia, Cambodia and Miami (USA), but we choose Vietnam because of the favourable conditions for the pageant, from finance to locales and hotels.

How many people will come to Vietnam, including Carousel’s organizing board and contestants?

Monzon: Our organizing board numbers around 30 members. They will go to Vietnam in groups to make surveys and to cooperate with Vietnamese partners to advertise the event. We are responsible for inviting and bring 90 contestants from around the world to Vietnam.

The Vietnamese organizing board will be in charge of accommodations, travel inside Vietnam for Carousel’s members and the 90 contestants over a three week period. Vietnam will also take provide to life insurance, health insurance and security for the contestants and the organizing board.

What are the duties of Carousel’s organizing board?

Monzon: We will support our Vietnamese partners in terms of stage design, sound and lighting. Carousel will also invite five prestigious foreign jurors for the finale.

This is a good chance for Vietnam to advertise its image internationally via TV channels in the Philippines, US, Europe and even the Middle East.

We will shoot a video clip about Vietnam to show on the final night and Vietnam can use the image of Miss Earth to market tourism. In 2007 Vietnam successfully organized a sub-competition of Miss Earth in Vinpearl Land (Nha Trang), so I strongly believe that it will be no problem for Vietnam to host Miss Earth 2010.

I and the Vietnamese organizing board are planning to sign the official contract for Miss Earth 2010 in late February 2010. According to our plan, Vietnam will host the Miss Earth in even-numbered years from now until 2020. VietNamNet/TN

Looking forward to a successful partnership between Carousel Producions and Thanh Nien/Vingroup of Vietnam!

Miss Earth 2009 winners on the beach

A day after the finals night of Miss Earth 2009, the four elemental beauties who were crowned as winners headed for the pristine beach of Fairways & Bluewater in Boracay for a pictorial with the press. The ladies wore their two-piece swimwear and crowns, while giving out victorious smiles to the photographers around. Here are some of the shots taken.

The elemental beauties of Miss Earth 2009 flash their victorious smiles to the press.

ME09 Larissa Ramos handed Brazil its 2nd Miss Earth crown and is set to become this environmental spokesperson of Mother Earth for the next 365 days.

There's more to the earthiness of beautiful Larissa Ramos. She is smart and adventurous as well. This 20 year old will have her hands full as Miss Earth 2009.

Once more, congratulations to the winners!!! Boa sorte, Larissa!!!
