Emin with the ladies
Russian Pop Star Emin had a blast rehearsing with the Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates. He charmed everyone, especially after taking selfies with the beauties.

And since we’re in the subject of rehearsals, Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-Up Janine Tugonon joined Venus Raj and Shamcey Supsup for a technical dry run of the finals. So the cast is now complete. Including main hosts Xian Lim and Anne Curtis.

What’s left to do? Watch the finals tonight! 🐵🐝🐸🐶🐈
Who will win this year?
I am a proud Thomasian, despite having taken Masteral studies in Ateneo Graduate School of Business and regular part-time teaching work at De La Salle Univesity afterwards.
The annual search for the Thomasian Youth Amabassador and Ambassadress is an event always worth looking forward to inside the campus. This is where some of the beautiful Binibinis started their journey towards pageant success. Titleholders like Janine Tugonon, Cindy Miranda and Jhezarie Javier would normally be mentioned in the same breath. Truth be told, however, there are more winners from the institution who no longer needed to pass through such – Charlene Gonzalez, Precious Lara Quigaman and Miriam Quiambao just to name a few.
Anyways, the 2014 candidates for the campus-wide personality competition are focusing on their main advocacy of education. And so far, I can feel that the four hopefuls below will figure out well during the finals scheduled for February 13, 2014 at the UST Plaza Mayor.
I think that Angelica Duran and Tetsuya Makino are potential winners. I will post here the eventual top finishers next week. ;-)
My picks to shine this year
Ariella Arida in the music video of Emin
Here’s a belated quickie.
The photos above are snap shots of Miss Philippines Ariella Arida’s participation in Russian Singer Emin’s music video of “In Another Life”.
Ariella and Janine after the finals.
And here’s an advanced quickie.
Come November 20, Ariella will turn 25. This early, let’s greet her Happy Birthday. The Diamond Nexus Lab crown would’ve been a wonderful gift, but placing in the Top 5 is already a memorable one. :-)
Ariella (first from right) guesting on Russian TV together with MU2013 and other candidates.
Ariella Arida continues the Philippines' Top 5 Miss Universe placement streak.
Ariella deserves to be praised for her efforts of making it as high as she did in MU2013.
Ariella Arida may have fallen short of her bid to win the country’s 3rd Miss Universe crown. But by duplicating Shamcey Supsup’s rank two years ago in Brazil, she effectively continued the Top 5 placement streak started by Venus Raj in 2010. And boy oh boy, did she make another one of my birthday wishes come true! Actually, I am surprising even myself that that list is getting realized one by one.
But enough of that, let’s turn our focus now on Ariella Arida who defied all the odds in her Miss Universe journey, disproved all bashers and negative predictions and zoomed all the way to the Top 5 and officially became the Fourth Most Beautiful Woman in the Universe.
I don’t even want to read less than pleasant comments from her so-called detractors (including possible insensitive allusions to her Top 5 rank being a consolation for Typhoon Yolanda’s attack on the country) simply because she has already vindicated herself the minute her name was called to the Top 16. And to think that some predicted that she is a lost cause who doesn’t stand a chance of making the first cut even before landing in Moscow.
Now, it looks like Ariella is saying “Look at me now! I may only be 3rd Runner-Up but that is much much higher than the cellar-dwelling position my detractors have placed me in!”
I can finally state my reasons for being so confident that Ariella will reach Top 5. 48 hours ago, a little birdie from Moscow already told me in confidence how much a strongly favored candidate (aside from being a Sponsors’ favorite) she was by the Miss Universe Organization and that the only mystery is how high up she will climb the ladder of the final cut. I placed her on top of my predictions because I had a very strong feeling she will make it far, and that the finals night judges could be the only hindrance in locking the #1 spot.
To Ariella Arida, Mabuhay Ka! Ipinagmamalaki ko ang iyong napagwagian sa patimpalak! Salamat sa iyong pagdadala ng pangalan ng Pilipinas sa abot ng iyong kakayanan.
To Jonas Gaffud, 4-peat achieved! Looking forward to a more glorious 5-peat in 2014! :-)

Watch MU2012 1st Runner-Up Janine Tugonon in her first webcast when she covered the Miss Universe 2013 Preliminaries last Tuesday.
Then & Now: Janine from 2012, Ariella in 2013.
The two ladies haven’t seen each other for a long time now. While Ariella Arida was busy and diligently training for Miss Universe 2013, her predecessor was just as tied up with numerous commitments and an extended New York trip. MU2012 1st Runner-Up Janine Tugonon sought her camp sister and national pageant successor as soon as she got settled in Moscow. And I am pretty certain the two of them have already made serious talks about the upcoming finals, with the latter giving a precious tip or two that should prove useful for our bet.
Aren’t the two ladies just sensational? :-)
MU2012 1st Runner-Up while at work in Moscow.
It’s a gig Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-Up can’t say no to. Aside from being afforded the chance to travel to Moscow and lend support to Miss Philippines Ariella Arida, she will also reunite with Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo with whom she shared centerstage with during the dying minutes of last year’s finals. What’s more, she will earn good money while doing work as Web Correspondent of Miss Universe 2013.
I’m sure many of you are wondering where the video interviews are. Uploads of the same will appear in the pageant website very soon! :-)
L-R: Marigona Dragusha, Dayana Mendoza and Janine Tugonon.
It’s so nice to see designer Sherri Hill having three beautiful image models that include Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2009 2nd Runner-Up Marigona Dragusha and Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-Up Janine Tugonon. These ladies represent the best of Europe, Latin America and Asia that will allow the fashion label to get a wider market reach.
Here’s a bigger shot of Janine.

Good job, Janine! :-)

Soon enough, you will see Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-Up gracing the pageant’s website videos as correspondent of the ongoing edition in Moscow. She should be leaving for the Russian capital around these days where her first assignment could be the Preliminaries scheduled for Tuesday, November 5.
We can’t wait for her arrival in the host city. And oh, have I told you that she looks absolutely stunning in the Fadil Berisha shots above while wearing a knockout Sherri Hill original? :-)

Miss Philippines Ariella Arida and Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler may have big height difference, but both are absolutely gorgeous.
Since 2010, National Pageant Heads Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta of BPCI and Osmel Sousa of the Miss Venezuela Organization have a nice competition heating up among themselves. It started to simmer when Venus Raj outclassed Marelisa Gibson in Vegas. And then it gradually reached boiling point in Sao Paulo when Shamcey Supsup zoomed past Vanessa Goncalvez. The hot bubbles started its furious ascend once more in Vegas when Janine Tugonon outpointed Irene Esser last year. Will 2013 be the right time for the Venezuelan beauty guru to exact revenge, at the expense of our current bet?
Hot competition between the Madame and Osmel as well.
Miss Philippines Ariella Arida and Miss Venezuela Maria Gabriela Isler are both stunners that the Madame and Osmel would fight tooth and nail to make sure that their respective wards become this year’s winner, more especially now that the latter has somehow lost his magic touch with MWO’s Julia Morley.
