2011 Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola

Leila Lopes is living the good life. After winning the Miss Universe 2011 crown exactly a month ago today, she has been endlessly pushed to the limelight. Not the kind of daily existence she is used to doing between winks, this unassuming Angolan is taking everything as they come while flashing her sunny smile and warm disposition. Take a look at all these images taken by Fadil Berisha and you will see an individual who is enjoying every minute of it.

In keeping with the true spirit of host country Brazil, the glamshots of Miss Universe 2011 are played with the themes of carnival and samba. And just looking at all 89 photographs taken by Fadil Berisha is enough to put me into a state of fun and fieriness…and so did the girls’ poses. I chose 15, presented in alphabetical order, which stood out from the rest. Sway those hips now!

These girls are having the time of their lives – glitz and glamour all around. But beneath the make-up, the tassles, the false eyelashes and all, there is a raging competition going on. And to survive the game, each one of them can never allow the next girl to shine better or pose fiercer.

If you watch the video above, this photoshoot is just one of the several the candidates will subject themselves to and wherein Fadil Berisha controls the shots (no pun intended). It’s all fun despite the non-stop activities. All for the Miss Universe 2011 crown! ;-)

It’s true. There’s nothing like being the reigning Miss Universe, especially in the homestretch of one’s reign. Take Ximena Navarrete, for example. She is having the time of her life in Sao Paulo at the moment. No pressures whatsoever. So she is definitely enjoying every minute of it, while being treated like royalty from sunrise to sundown.

Of course, everything changes the moment she transfers the Diamond Nexus Lab Miss Universe crown on her successor’s head come September 12. She won’t be as mobbed and adulated anymore. But the good thing is that she can start a new life that offers more opportunities, either in Mexico or anywhere else in North and South America. And that is when the reality of a post-reigning Miss Universe’s existence starts to sink in.

For now, enjoy the high life, Ximena! ;-)

With or without heavy make-up on, Olesya is a true stunner!

Olesya Stefanko, 23, will be Ukraine’s entry to Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paulo. The professional model, who comes from Kolomyia in Ukraine’s Carpathian region, is both a headturner who stands 1.77m (5’9 1/2″) and a brainy student who is currently enrolled in a Law degree in Odessa.

She is succeeding Anna Poslavskaya who landed 3rd Runner-Up in Las Vegas last year. From this stems the challenge to step up and exceed the latter’s achievement. And I feel she is no hard-sell amidst the sea of beauties who will tough it out in Brazil. Her ever-changing looks – from a naive eye candy to a sophisticated femme séduisant – will undeniably catch the attention of Donald Trump who does not hide his penchant for Russian, Ukrainian and Central European ladies.

A Grand Slam Dunk of a crown for Miss Universe China 2011 Luo Zilin?

China is prepping itself for Miss Universe 2011 in a big way. Here comes tall and elegant Luo Zilin (going by the western name of Roseline) who will wear the sash of the most populous country in the world in Sao Paulo. The professional model from Zhejiang – who stands at 1.82m or virtually 6 feet – was selected Miss Universe China 2011 at Beijing’s Mastercard Arena last night. She literally stood tall while being crowned in the presence of 2007 Miss Universe Riyo Mori and Miss Universe Glam photographer Fadil Berisha. Her court of beauties include 1st Runner-Up Li Han Zi, 2nd Runner-Up Zhang Ya Mei and 3rd Runner-Up Yi Na. The national pageant, which is now being handled by internationally-renowned entrepreneur Yue-Sai Kan, has gotten a big lift this year and is going the route that Japan and Korea took years back.

Luo Zilin has legs that extend forever!

The question is…will Luo Zilin be successful? The Chinese are always pumped to go for all the superlatives, like in the Olympics where they want to establish the fastest swims, the longest jumps, the swiftest leaps and the heaviest lifts. Will they now get tagged as having the prettiest woman in the universe?

This much I can say. Miss Universe 2011 is going to be the toughest beauty competition in years. And the Asia-Pacific region alone is fielding some of the most outstanding beauties it has produced in a long time. Luck will play a major role for sure. ;-)

These images are just a dozen of the Fadil Belisha glamshots taken of the 51 Miss USA 2011 candidates. For sure, the concept of the Miss Universe 2011 counterpart will be similar to the above so expect some fierce hair-dos and make-ups come September. Some of the hair styles don’t sit well with me (especially the thrashy looking ones) but there are more than a few that stood out. I can give the thumbs up to California, Indiana and Tennessee.

Honestly, it wasn’t that difficult selecting 15 ladies who stood out in the Miss Universe 2010 Evening Gown Photos by Matt Petit. I was probably vacillating a bit between my 15th and 16th picks, but it’s all good.

Instead of focusing on who wore the Best Evening Gown, I gave more points on who wore it well and posed with fierceness. After all, the whole pageant has been modernized to no end so out with traditionalism and in with evolution.

If I had to pick my Best 5 shots, the ladies on top would be Venezuela, Philippines, Ireland, Japan and Puerto Rico, with Russia being close behind in 6th.

For Venus Raj supporters who are up in arms against the orange gown she was shot wearing, please be reminded once more that this is not what she will don for the preliminaries. Nonetheless, she really went to the max with her relatively unorthodox pose and came out successful. I can say with certainty that she gave the best pose among the ladies.

Onwards with the body-painted swimwears (or 50%-reduced bikinis since a number of the ladies decided to go topless) which should add endless steam to the already controversial Fadil Berisha photoshoot. Watch out for our own Venus here where she was brushed in gold! ;-)

The Fadil Berisha swimsuit photoshoot for Miss Universe 2010 is a hot topic nowadays. Body Paints galore!

To make the whole thing more controversial, some of the ladies decided to go topless in their photos so that the body paints can be appreciated in full.

And for Venus Raj supporters waiting in suspense, our girl opted to keep her top on and brandish her gold body paint with pride. ;-)
