Can Nichole approximate her sister Bianca’s achievements in Bb. Pilipinas? (Photo credit: Emerson Cebanico)
The presence of sisters Bianca and Nichole Manalo during the birthday bash of Rodgil Flores was enough to freely compare the two.
If they joined Bb. Pilipinas in the same year, Bianca will definitely enjoy the edge. She has already acquired the sexy swagger and attitude that spews confidence in every move. While her speaking voice and communication skills are subjects that need to be detailed in an entirely different chapter, she still has what it takes to upend a good number of the 2014 entries – five years after she won Bb. Pilipinas Universe.
On the other hand, equally tall Nichole has freshness going for her. Her fair flawless complexion is also an ace up her sleeve, in addition to a shapelier figure. But then again, we all are not fond of the round-ish face she possesses. It’s something that’s setting her apart from both elder siblings in a not-so-preferable way.
How about you, dear readers? Care to compare them? ;-)
And the youngest Manalo sister will also shine
Looks like the eldest sister prevailed. Kate Manalo will now see their youngest sister Nichole Manalo following her and Bianca’s Binibini footsteps. The question is, will she be as fortunate in nailing a crown? This year’s batch is going to be a battlefield of beauties exploding everywhere. And unless one is ready to charge a possible loss to experience early on, the casualties will be quite heavy.
But on another side of the coin, will Nichole benefit from whatever influence her two older siblings can pull? Does Kagandahang Flores have a winner in her? What do you think, dear readers? ;-)
Nichole Manalo is keen on joining Bb. Pilipinas 2014
Another buzz that’s been making the rounds of pageant circles is the possible joining of the younger sister of two previous Binibini titleholders Katherine (MW2002) and Bianca Manalo (MU2009).
Nichole Manalo is a Nursing graduate who feels that she also has what it takes to approximate the successes of her older siblings in beauty competitions. And I don’t see why not. She has the height and beauty to take part in one.
Bianca (left) and Kate Manalo are allegedly at odds on whether to allow sister Nichole to join Binibini.
But what is this I hear that Kate and Bianca are allegedly at odds on whether to allow Nichole to submit her application? According to hushed talks, the former has given her thumbs up while the latter an opposite. Sibling rivalry or just a typical disagreement among sisters?
Well, whichever way the decision goes, you’ll know who prevailed should we see a 3rd Manalo sister screening for Bb. Pilipinas 2014.;-)
Our Miss Universe three-peat Queens (L-R): Venus Raj, Janine Tugonon and Shamcey Supsup. Shot inside the palatial abode of Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta.
2010, 2011 and 2012 are three of the most colorful and significant years of Philippine participation in the Miss Universe Pageant. It also adds extra glitter that everything came one after the other. But what does it really mean to the three beauty camps – Aces & Queens, Kagandahang Flores and Team JDV? A tiara-ful of iron-clad pressure, that’s what! Which leads me into thinking…..is Jonas Gaffud genuinely excited about getting the Miss Universe-Philippines crown for one of his wards and be continuously expected to come up with a Miss Universe four-peat? Or will his nerves of steel succumb to the extraordinary stress it will bring?
On the other side of the coin, is Rodgil Flores battle-prepared to make a Miss Universe comeback (Bianca Manalo was his last protégé to take part in Donald Trump’s roadshow) in a time when the country’s anticipations are sky-high?
Or is John dela Vega raring to debut one of his girls in the greatest beauty pageant in the Universe? Although he is still technically the original man behind Janine Tugonon when she joined the first time, there is something entirely different with guiding a girl from start to the absolute finish.
Whoever among them ends up celebrating with the top winner of Bb. Pilipinas 2013 will require a most magnanimous spirit as he will be faced with such an intense mission ahead. And as the applied saying goes, “three heads are better than one” so it is best to collectively pool their efforts for a possible record-setting Top 5 MU placement. ;-)

Kagandahang Flores (KF) is the other reputable beauty camp churning out ladies for Bb. Pilipinas. While good friends with Jonas Gaffud, KF Head Rodgil Flores has been in deep competition with A&Q for many years now. Just to name his more recent successes, there are Nicole Schmitz, Dianne Necio, Isabella Manjon and Bianca Manalo to carry the group’s colors. For 2013, five of their bets have already enlisted and I am featuring three of them. Might I also add that they are simply stunning!
Enter Bea Rose Santiago, Parul Shah and Charmaine Elima.
You will remember Bea Rose Santiago as Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities 2011 who represented us in the Miss Tourism Queen International 2012 where she landed the Top 10. She stands 5’9″.
The other two appeared in earlier features here. Parul Shah is the Baguio Fil-Indian charmer who placed in Aliwan Festival 2009. She stands 5’9″.
And then there’s Charmaine Elima from Rizal. The dusky beauty is 5’7″.
So the question now is…who will the fountain bless? I’m quite certain that they will make it to the year’s fold. But is there a potential winner among them? I actually like all three, but I would put Parul and Charmaine over Bea for now. ;-)
Will Diana Arevalo give Bb. Pilipinas 2013 one last try?
2009 marked Diana Arevalo’s first attempt at a Bb. Pilipinas crown. She was 20 then. And she was justly rewarded with a Top 10 placement. Bianca Manalo came out on top.
2011 saw her return to the Bb. Pilipinas stage. For a second-timer at age 22, it would have been a triumphant re-appearance. Alas, her best was just good enough for a Top 15 nod. Shamcey Supsup upended her bid.
2013. Will she make that one final go for a (twice-foiled) victory in the pageant? Turning 24 this year is one clear sign that this will be her Binibini curtain call if ever. Because two years from now, her age will have already reached the set limit.
The stakes are higher. The risks are bigger. And the rewards are greater, if successfully accomplished.
Is Diana Arevalo up to the extremely big challenge? ;-)
And as this year’s Miss Universe saga unfolds, a repeat venue has been revealed. Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas will be the host once more of the pageant.
Am I happy with this development? Ask me again. Am I happy? No.
Isn’t this the same place where all Asian candidates were shut out of the semifinals, despite our candidate Bianca Manalo being one of the favorites to at least make the first cut?
It will definitely be a cool and windy one month for all of the 2012 delegates for sure. Who should the Philippines send? Well, your guess is as good as mine. ;-)
But in all honesty, I hope this isn’t true.
