Among the Aces & Queens bets, Bb. Pilipinas 2014 1st Runner-Up Laura Victoria Lehmann is considered the baby of the group and the one who approached the whole pageant experience with wide-eyed enthusiasm and wonder. And when she found herself moving up the ladder during the finals and eventually securing a spot in the Top 7, the reaction she showed was so delightfully genuine. In fact, she was all set to beautifully charge everything to experience and possibly return to her schooling in the US. Hence, there was no difficulty in dishing out the feeling of contentment now that she has gotten even much more than what she initially bargained for.
Contentment is at its best when looked at as a rare gem co-equal in value with happiness. When a person harbors such blissful emotion, there is an underlying avoidance of unnecessary stress which can only complicate situations if endlessly pursued.
But truly, how much is enough to be content? I am now led to share another anec-quote from Khaled Hosseini who is the author of the bestselling-book-turned-into-a-movie The Kite Runner. He states, “That same night, I wrote my first short story. It took me thirty minutes. It was a dark little tale about a man who found a magic cup and learned that if he wept into the cup, his tears turned into pearls. But even though he had always been poor, he was a happy man and rarely shed a tear. So he found ways to make himself sad so that his tears could make him rich. As the pearls piled up, so did his greed grow. The story ended with the man sitting on a mountain of pearls, knife in hand, weeping helplessly into the cup with his beloved wife’s slain body in his arms.”
Big shout-out to Laura! I know you’ll be reading this. :-D
Since today is the start of Holy Week (actually it officially kicked off yesterday with Palm Sunday), I am beginning a 7-day series on “Anec-quotes” or quotes from our seven Bb. Pilipinas 2014 victors that tell us their feelings and or personal stories on the achievement they made in the tough competition. From there, I will endeavor to link an inspiring core values. Let us now unfold with 2nd Runner-Up Hannah Ruth Sison.

When Hannah Ruth Sison was named 2nd Runner-Up in Bb. Pilipinas 2014, there was gratitude. She could have easily taken the path of questioning why – of all the candidates – the lowest spot in the Top 7 was given to her. But instead, she respected the outcome and took it as a sign that the organizers have noticed her as a strong contender who was capable of giving the crown-bearers a run for their money. She chose to look at the glass half-full than half-empty. And during the entirety of her official reign as a lady-in-waiting, I am inclined to believe that she will aim to fill the glass to the rim with her cooperative spirit and discipline. In the process, BPCI will hopefully see her dedication to become a true beauty queen – be it in the mid-term or right after she turns 26 next year.
In life, it is always adhered upon that respect is earned just as it is given to those who deserve the same. We cannot do much about individuals who would rather go against the flow. But if I can find it in myself to treat each individual (real or online reel) with courtesy, then wouldn’t it be a nicer way for everyone to forge friendly relations more than hate?
Note: Your blogger will be on a brief Holy Week break. Time to fully recharge. Regular blogging will resume on Easter Sunday. Please focus and process your thoughts with the daily “anec-quotes” and hopefully, it will give you some value-filled thoughts during Lent. :-)
Below is a video of the portion of last night’s TV Patrol World where Korina Sanchez reported on Beauty Queen Universities or in pageant language, the Beauty Camps. The two main groups – Aces & Queens and Kagandahang Flores – were heavily featured, as well as pitted against each other in a somewhat tale of the tape kind of comparison. Watch now.

Bianca with mother Gela and Stepdad Osmar
It was such a fun-filled Saturday night at the Skye Lounge (roofdeck) of W High Street Bldg in BGC when Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti (together with her proud mother Gela, stepdad Osmar and other family members) threw a Thanksgiving Dinner-cum-Party for her recent victory during the finals of Binibining Pilipinas 2014 last March 30. In attendance were friends, camp handlers, relatives and close well-wishers of the brand-new beauty queen who welcomed everyone with the trademark smiling face she is now getting known for.

Aside from family members, college friends and the like, fellow Binibinis showed up for support. Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago, 1st Runner-Up Laura Lehmann and close friend Binibini 28 Carla Lizardo were there. The MPE ladies also came in full force – Mary Anne Misa, Hannah Caayon, Melanie Balagtas, Janelle Tee and Crizelle Ocampo. Of course, the Aces & Queens group headed by Jonas Gaffud joined in.

When Miss Universe 2013 Maria Gabriela Isler visited the Philippines for Bb. Pilipinas 2014, Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart was always by her side, much like the way MWO Head Julia Morley stands by and even holds hands with Miss World 2013 Megan Young in almost all her appearances.
So when the two of them attended the finals last Sunday night, it was evident how Paula would constantly attend to the needs or questions of Molly while judging was ongoing. Was the former guiding the latter on how to score the Binibinis or was Paula simply asking Molly if she needs anything at all?
Whatever the answer to the question is, MJ Lastimosa is already the new Miss Universe Philippines. If she was indeed handpicked by MUO to represent the country in Miss Universe 2014, then it only means that our bet has already earned two thumbs up from the important people who matter. ;-)
The six (6) ladies above screened for Bb. Pilipinas 2014, with near-but-not-quite success.
What is the common denominator among the six (6) ladies above? Simple. They all screened for Bb. Pilipinas 2014, got eliminated in different stages and tried their luck in Miss Philippines Earth 2014. They are now green-lighted as Earth Warriors. For one of them – Diane Querrer – she was disqualified within 24 hours from announcement of Official Candidates after her height was measured to fall below the minimum limit. This is her 2nd attempt in the environment-focused tilt.
As for Janelle Tee and Mary Laverlyn Naluz, they made it to Top 60 but failed to advance to Top 40.
On the other hand, Hannah Caayon, Trixie Hipolito and Rosebel Bastasa reached the Top 74 but got cut on the way to Top 60.
This time around, they all made it to the list of fifty (50) Official Candidates.
Diane, Hannah, Janelle, Laverlyn, Trixie and Rosebel are now representing Tanauan City, Mandaue City, Davao City, Las Pinas City, Kidapawan City and Jose Dalman in Zamboanga del Norte, respectively.
Good luck, ladies! May what you did not achieve in Bb. Pilipinas 2014 be realized in Miss Philippines Earth 2014. :-)
Can she wait long enough for her moment to shine?
Hannah Ruth has waited this long. Surely, her patience hasn't run dry.
There is always something to be said about being runners-up in the annual Binibining Pilipinas. For starters, they train with the crowned winners, attend personal appearances and constantly wear the sash stating their rightful placements in the magic circle. And all of this without the guarantee of getting the chance to represent the Philippines abroad. What then is the source of interest to sustain the drive and discipline to measure up to the titleholders without the clarity of anything in exchange?
It’s the prestige. The pride of being one of the best in the country’s premier national beauty pageant. Never mind if they always get tagged with the most generic-sounding honor. The mere fact that they belong to the fringes of the creme de la creme should be reason enough to still project themselves as winners. And who knows? If they eventually prove to be good soldiers at BPCI, Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta just might take a shine on one or both and find a respectable international competition to field them in.

Such is the case with Laura Victoria Lehmann and Hannah Ruth Sison – 1st and 2nd Runners-Up in Bb. Pilipinas 2014, respectively. The waiting can be excruciatingly long, but ultimately satisfying if bright and promising opportunities would come along. The prospects haven’t really happened that much in the past. But with the resurgence of belief in the world-class quality of the Filipina, I have a strange feeling something interesting might just be served on their plates in the mid-term. Let’s see. ;-)
The challenge is set in stone for Yvethe. Back-to-Back mode.
Yvethe Marie Santiago was the girl being predicted by many as the Philippines’ next representative to Miss Universe. She’s young, fresh and well-credentialed. But somewhere along the way to the finals, the winds of change suddenly blew in a different path. She still ended up with one of the five (5) crowns, but lost her grip on the top prize to a more battle-trained (seasoned if you will) beauty warrior in the person of MJ Lastimosa.
There’s no need to ask a question like ‘what went wrong?’ because in the first place, she was still honored with a title that effectively makes her part of Team Philippines for 2014. In fact, she is now being challenged to carry on the prospects of a back-to-back victory in Miss Supranational 2014.

The excitement for Yvethe may have been dampened. But I reckon that her fans and followers have already made truce with the turn-out of events. The time to level up and solidify the support is more crucial than ever, because on her shoulders now rest the pride and honor of a country that is at the peak of outstanding representations in the global pageant stage.
And I’m pretty sure the beautiful Albayana is more than glad to be one of five (5) soldiers of beauty who will continue with the tradition of excellence. :-)

The good news: I had a very pleasant encounter with the newly-crowned Bb. Pilipinas 2014 winners at Balay in Araneta Center earlier. All seven ladies are in full bloom and looked every inch the beauty queens they have been transformed into just last Sunday night.
The not-so-good news: It was a full-on Press Conference instead of an opportunity to do one-on-one interviews with them. In fact, I was the last and only digital press rep to be able to ask one question. As expected, the broadsheet media and TV networks were given the chance to throw in questions ahead plus on-cam coverages, respectively.
Watch the 3-minute video below when I fortunately squeezed a question for Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson.
It was a thrill seeing the winners once more. But I was more excited when Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa stated about the possibility of winning our 3rd Miss Universe crown as: “I’ll make it my destiny!“.
She clearly elicited the most number of interest from the guests present. And her aura alone is starting to exude traces of a future big winner.
I was hoping to ask more questions, but time wasn’t on our side as the allotted schedule for the press conference already went beyond the intended frame.
But don’t fret. I got an invite to attend the thanksgiving party of Bianca Guidotti soon. I will make a separate post on that this weekend. ;-)
