Deankie (right) and Tiara will try to win the top prize in tonight's finals of 'The Apartment: Design Your Destiny'
With the help of Karen Kieves (Digital PR Manager of Jadensocial), I was able to get some Q&A time with Cebu-based Deankie Latonio & Tiara Sison who will go for the big win in tonight’s finale of ‘The Apartment: Design Your Destiny’ on Star World.
1) Did you enter the competition thinking of winning or are you surprised to have reached the Final 2?
Deankie: I came into the competition determined to win, knowing that it would help my current situation of possibly losing our house, as well as be a good jumpstart in my career as an interior designer. But I have to say as the competition went on our confidence was shaken up many times, so I am so glad and relieved to have reached the finals.
Tiara: Deankie and I really aimed to get into the finals, we just did not expect everything to happen according to plan. Personally, I actually did not expect it all! I am happy as long as I am in the competition with Deankie and I gained a lot of great experience from the show…ergo, I am in a total BLISS.
2) Outside of Yvette & Sonia, who did you consider as the other team likeliest to be the other finalist?
Deankie: I would say either Team Ines & Jen, or Team Pearlyn & Nara. Both have that great eye for architectural aesthetics and man talk about growth from week-to-week! Such amazing improvement.
Tiara: Pearlyn and Nara. TeamPnN’s performance in the competition developed really well and their kitchen is my favorite.. the best!
3) Which among the other teams are you closest to?
Deankie: All of them are sweet and very friendly but we got really close to Team Tiny (April and Jen) and Team Brian & Sarah. We mingle with them a lot.
Tiara: All of them are sweet and very friendly but we got more close to Team Tiny (April and Jen) and Team Brian & Sarah. We mingle with them a lot.
4) If the prize included a personal mentorship with either Jamie or Laurence, who would you pick and why?
Deankie: I would love Laurence to be my mentor! He’s just really a great person who shares so much insight about design, and as a mentor he would really tell you straight to your face what went wrong with your design.
Tiara: I really love Lawrence, he’s hilarious, fun to work with and I am 100% sure that I can learn a lot from him. For Jamie, he’s expertise in horticulture is interesting. My Dad taught me how to garden because he’s an agriculturist and planting is one of his expertise as well, so I am very interested in house gardens. So… I don’t know yet, both of them are best choice, or I’m just gonna pick them on “pintot2″ way hahaha!
5) At what point in the competition did you think that you have a pretty good shot at taking it all the way to the finals?
Deankie: When Adam and Adrian chose to take $2000 off of our budget for the next challenge, as a part of their prize when they won the garden challenge. It was here I realised that they had noticed our strengths. This gave our confidence a boost.
Tiara: When we got our first victory in the living room challenge. It was then that I thought that we can make to the top, as long we are consistent with what we do.
6) The prize is a two-storey Sime Darby property at Elmina. Do you consider it a much better incentive compared to the condo unit given in Season 2?
Deankie: I think so, because this year’s prize is a house! A two story house! I guess that best explains the reason why…hehehe
Tiara: Well, I don’t actually mind it, as long as there is a prize. I think that’s what counts
7) What life lessons have you learned being part of a very competitive reality design competition?
Deankie: Teamwork is no.1! And through our journey I have come to a realization that for art to be art and for design to be design, it should come from inspiration. I have also learnt the art of trust, be it towards my working with a partner, or into trusting your guts when it comes to decision making and design interpretation.
Tiara: It used to really upset me and I would lose confidence when people tried to push me down. Now, I say, gain it again, do whatever it takes to make you stand up and think you can do it!
8) Lastly, who will get the Master Bedroom in the event of a victory in the finals?
Deankie: Tiara and I shared rooms and sleeping spaces a lot, back in college. So I guess that won’t be hard to decide… Both of us can share!.. hahahaha
Tiara: ME!!! hahahaha…
Make sure you watch tonight’s finale on Star World (right after Masterchef US) so you can see if the Philippine team of Deankie & Tiara will win.
Break a nail gun, guys!
