Binibini 17 Brenna Cassandra Gamboa is a motivational speaker by profession. Her English facility is commendable. It also comes with the territory to think on her feet. And I can be a sucker for ladies who speak their mind in unrehearsed mode.
English is the first language of Binibini 19 Christi Lynn McGarry. Having grown in the US, she doesn’t have any problems expressing her thoughts in the said tongue. While she tries to pepper her answers with short Filipino phrases here and there, the American twang will always be evident.
I am not saying that Brenna and Christi are guaranteed semifinal slots just because they speak English well. It helps a lot, moreso if they can consistently collect their thoughts during one-on-ones.And based on beauty merits alone, I think they’re already on the upswing. Now if they can combine all of their strengths to an impressive whole, then the judges will definitely keep a watchful eye and pencil them grades appropriate to what they can offer as potential winners. 😉
Christi – top 4 potential, tall, regal, intelligent, athletic, beautifully brown, articulates naturally in the world’s lingua franca, and has international pageant experience.
Brenna – well.. she has a good personality 🙂
Good luck ladies…
Top 4 crowns -Universe, International, Supranational, Intercontinental…
IMO however only Christi, Pia or Janicel for Universe. Anything else for these 3 would be a minor disappointment. 😦
My heart goes out to the contestant crowned Bb Tourism 2015. During coronation she has to PRETEND to be honored and happy. Poor thing. I’m sure it is a title none of the ladies want. ;-(
OMG, natulog lang ako may World War 3 na sa Normans blog.
Anyway, lets respect each other’s opinion na lang. We are all beautiful in our own rights, di ba mga bekz?
mcgarry for miss u, along with colis, lubina & sison!
See you all in March 15!!!!
Mcgarry reminds me of Thalia.
Christi for MUP 2015 🙂
McGarry is a more malaman version of Jimmy Santos when dressed in a ladies wardrobe.
A candidate’s fluency in English is actually one of the least criteria I’d look for, personally. In my case it’s the overall charm and sensibility. When I say “charm”, that’s the idiosyncrasies: do they give a toothy smile, do they chuckle in every question asked, do they open their mouth like they’d eat the entire Universe like Gloria Diaz, you get what I mean. Those things. And some girls can pull that off very charmingly. I’d like to add, a good-natured, pleasant aura too.
For Miss Universe they are genrally looking for fun-loving, spontaneous personalities. Definitely never for the “scripted” type.
For Miss International pick the soft-spoken and very feminine one. The one whose sincerity you can feel in her words, or, well, the ones who can act that out very well :p
But really, it’s the wit, humour, charm… the content of what they say, not the language. Of course it would help a huge lot if they can speak English fluently. But I guess “that” mentality only applies here in the Philippines. I find that rather shallow…
I’d Choose Christi in this case not necessarily because of her English proficiency, but because of her relaxed, natural charm and spontaneity.
very well said!!! go go go Christi!!
Yep go go Christi !
Dc’15 is just expressing his opinion/analysis. I don’t understand why some people are trying to make a big deal out of it. we are all entitled to express our opinion whether it’s a rant or praise to a certain thing, event and even people / personality. I perfectly understand DC’15, we may not have the identical choice but putting myself in his shoes makes me feel that he is really making sense here.
Let’s just support our bets and be happy whatever the results will be..
True. I don’t agree with all of DC15’s picks but at least he wrote a sensible analysis of why he picked them. Made for interesting reading.😊
Exactly! 🙂
If all the people in this world think the way you do, we all would enjoy PEACE. 🙂
You’re absolutely right. 🙂
Christi Lyn McGarry – for MUP or BbP International
Other possible MUP – Colis, Lubina and Malinao
BbP Intercontinental – Leonard, Verzosa, Malinao
BbP Supranational – Marquez, Hipolito, Sison
BbP Tourism – Marquez, Sison
Wurtzbach – for BbP Tourism 2016
Christi is my ultimate choice for MUP 2015 ! Period 🙂
Alaiza is my 2nd choice should the stars not align in Christi’s favor on March 15 !
This is my opinion but there is something within her na nakaka off, I am not sure if its her nose.
Foreign sounding name?
WURTZBACH
PIA na naman? Naghahanap talaga ito ng away.
Hahahaha!
So ngayon alam mo na pakiramdam?
You are right. It’s her nose and that makes her eyes appear far apart kasi parang malapad siya. It’s like there is a wide gap in between her eyes. Kaya parang may off tingnan sa kanya. I still believe she will place, though.
Tina Paner… that’s one thing that I have pointed out in my previous post that got so many thumbs down lol. I was actually rooting for her too but after watching all the clips posted on this site, I found out that there is something in her face that I don’t like though I was not sure what it was but now I know..Her face looks fake and too stretched out…like Madan Auring. xoxo
I cannot imagine our country being represented by someone who does not speak sensible English at all that’s why my first criterion in choosing a winner is always the individual’s ability to speak the universal language. And let me point out that speaking English does not equate to the individual as being intelligent. It is simply an ability. In other words, someone who is fluent but speaks nonsense is definitely a NO-NO to me.
Obviously, Brenna Cassandra and Cristi Lynn are on my shortlist if you guys have been following my latest comments. Simple reason: beauty, height and ability to speak sensible English. Then I have to figure out their individual “X” and “it” factors and rank them the best way I can.
Yesterday morning I have already ranked the ones in my shorlist and have already announced my two crownholders: Teresita Ssen as Bb Pilipinas International and Toni Alyessa as Bb Pilipinas Tourism. Obviously it wasn’t easy as I had to weigh so many things and even used my special gut-feel. My final judgement for the two: Brenna Cassandra’s highest position in this competition would be as second runner-up whilst Christi Lynn will be crowned as Bb Pilipinas Supranational.
Now it’s too obvious who the rest of my choices are so let me just lay down my cards…
Remember when I mentioned that I found two candidates as the most impressive after watching the primer and that I want both of them to be crowned no matter what. As Teresita Ssen’s appointment has been revealed, allow me to appoint Kylie as Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental.
Last year, everbody felt and thought that I hated Pia TO THE MAX as I didn’t bother putting her on my Top 7 list. Not that I was really against her nor did I not want her to win BUT my gut-feel dictated that her best spot was only semifinals and I WAS RIGHT. And this time, no matter how I try to ignore her as somehow I got affected by her exaggerated bashers, I just can’t because of what my gut-feel shouts out loud — that her stars will align perfectly and she will be crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2015. And if the judges of the national pageant agree, I have this very strange feeling that we’ll have our third Miss Universe crown.
To recap, here’s my TOP SEVEN:
2nd Runner-up: BRENNA CASSANDRA GAMBOA
1st Runner-up: ANN LORRAINE COLIS
Bb Pilipinas Tourism: TONI ALYESSA HIPOLITO
Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental: KYLIE VERZOSA
Bb Pilipinas Supranational: CHRISTI LYNN MCGARRY
Bb Pilipinas International: TERESITA SSEN MARQUEZ
Miss Universe Philippines: PIA WURTZBACH
😉 The One and Only DEXTER CO 🙂
Though we do not have the same girls on the Top 7, I do appreciate your assessment and ranking criteria. Question for you though — Wouldn’t McGarry’s communication prowess be a waste in Supranational since there is not a lot of emphasis placed on communication in that pageant?
I understand where you are coming from but if you’d notice, all my choices are capable of expressing themselves in English sernsibly. Should I not assign her that title just because there’s no Q&A in the pageant’s finale? Isn’t it more assuring for us if we know that we are being represented by someone with a complete package?
Thanks for the question. I rest my case…
@DC’15 – ang taas naman ng criteria mo? Sensible English.
IMHO, it doesn’t matter if a candidate can speak good english or not. What is more important is she has knowledge on everything and can fully express herself and smart, kahit pa anong lengwahe or dialect pa yan. We have our own national language, and to show love for our country why don’t use it in international contests like what others have been doing?
This is a beauty pageant and not a public speaking contest anyway.
@DC’15 – eto yung sinabi mo o…
“I cannot imagine our country being represented by someone who does not speak sensible English at all that’s why my first criterion in choosing a winner…”
by the word “kadalasan” ibig sabihin meron bihira diba?
ayyy ang tanga-tanga ko….
I don’t think you got my point so let it be…
Taga Mercator ka teh?
It wasn’t intentional that six out of seven came frtom A&Q. Well, if I am from Mercator, I will not dare make this comment. 😉
I have to say I’m very impressed. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks. It’s my humble analysis. 🙂
Bold and brave predictions. While I don’t violently disagree with your choices I’m just wondering why pick Pia for the top plum when she didn’t even impress you last year? I think the problem with pageant veterans and repeaters is that the more they compete in pageants the more they lose their sense of naturalness (is that even a word) and spontaneity that they end up being pageant patty even if they try hard not to. Everything is by the numbers for them. That’s precisely why I want fresh and young people to win because admit it they are a joy to watch. Anyway the problem with Janicel Lubina is that her camp trained her to the point she’s losing her self- awareness and becoming a mere loyal subject to her mentors in my opinion. Pati mata super smile. Mind she was the prettiest and most elegant in gown during her batch and still ended up Supranational precisely because her English skills were doubtful. But then again she made history and she is an icon.
I’m sorry if I sounded as if I wasn’t impressed by her last year because I would not place her on my semifinal list then if she really didn’t. But as I have already said, my gut-feel said she won’t place last year — that was all.
Thanks, Dawn.
You’re the same guy that predicted Yvette to win MUP last year and didn’t even had MJ on your list. Your list is bunch of bull.
Well, well, well… At least you were affected by THE list, otherwise, you will not bother to comment. Have a pleasant day! 🙂
Aha! ikaw pala yung masugid na supporter ni Yvethe last year ha! After ng BbP pageant, nawala kang bigla. Lols.
I never bashed MJ. You can ask her #1 supporter.
@miss tissa pasalamat na siya kung supra nga, e pano kung tourism? or runner up na naman?! or semi-finalist ulet?! baka see you in bp2016! 😆
I was completely out of this blog during MU2014-15. And looking at your story, I feel sad na ikaw ang nagkakalat ng kalagiman dito. Patawarin nawa kayo…
It is just my opinion na BbP Supra or BbP Tourism ang placement nya. Same as yours na may sarili kang opinion. Everybody naman is entitled to his/her opinion.
Tandaan mo to: If Pia will be crowned MUP i have no problem and I will be happy to support her in MU. Not only Pia, but anybody from them.
Welcome back Dexter Co!
Congratulations, you just made it as new Director of a new pagesnt Miss Mercator Pageant.
I’ve just turned them down. Ain’t my cup of tea! 😉
@DC’15 Wow! Impressive and good analysis! I agree with you. Good job Dex!
Thanks. 🙂
My personal opinion ur placement for MUP and MS should be switch…i prefer mcgarry for MUP…
Of course, we are entitled to our opinions. Let’s wait and see… 😉
Me too it’s Christi for me for MUP 2015
Definitely a big plus…you need to be able to speak your mind and represent an organization, MU is looking for one. Christi for the win 🙂 See 01:18 in the video below.
Precisely. That is why I was shocked when they crowned Paulina..
It only proves that to be able to speak your mind and represent an organization is not what MU is looking for!
Paulina Vega wins!
Ms Mcgarry looks very trannie.ang lakikng bulas!
Its part of personality, so definitely a plus!
McGarry for MI or Supra!

Parang ugly version ni Alessandra di Rossi si Christi…..Bb.Tourism for Me.
